I take Gostkowski today. He might be the MVP so far in 2008.

as good as vinatieri is, or was, Gostkowski is amazing. hes proben to be clutch also

Gost by a mile. Vinatieri came through clutch for us obviously but he misses far more than Gost and is ridiculously overpaid.

Another good decision by BB and SP. Sadly AV looks tired now, but I will always regard him as one of the all time great Patriots, and if he goes into the HOF it will be wearing a Patriots' jersey!

Gost has got to be the best value for money on the team at the moment.

I meant based on what they are doing today. Vinatieri has been dreadful this season. Considering how many FG's we have kicked this year, we could be 1 - 3 based on Adam's track record this year.

Incredibly consistent kicker, great range.. never seen him rattled...

That 49 yarder was killer. Impressive day.

No joke, I'd feel confident with Gost kicking a 60 yarder.

Count the Rings! If he is so good why didn't they let him kick the FG at the end of the half in the Super Bowl!!!!

Not to bring up things, but what didnt Belichick bring him on to kick that 45 yrd against the Giants instead of the pats going for it on 4th down in the SB last yr... I like Ghost, and has come along way and we dont miss Adam, but if he is this good, he would have been good last yr.. Sorry still having flashbacks:banned:

The Gost.Venateiri (sp?) doesnt seem as clutch anymore.

I was with 20+ Pats fans watching today's game and we asked the same question. It was UNANIMOUS for Gost.

Maybe I should dig up all those old Adam Shouldn't Have Been Let Go threads. :)

Gostkowski hands down. I had no problem with coming in. Cursed the **** outta V when he left though.

I noticed V missed one today. Gostkowski hasn't missed since December of 2007. :D

The clutch ability of Gost is an unknown since he has not kicked any game winning kicks in his three years. However, he has looked great this season and Adam's best days are behind him even though he plays most of his games in a dome.

:enranged:

The winning points came on a 31-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski with 1:10 left. That capped a 72-yard drive highlighted by a 49-yard pass to Caldwell, who left the Chargers as a free agent after last season.

More importantly, this isn't even the biggest kick he made in that game. I sincerely believe that if he hadn't made the 50-yarder at the end of the first quarter--when the Patriots were struggling to get anything going (two three and outs, and the third drive only went 30ish yards)--the result would have been something like San Diego 31 New England 10.

At this moment, it's an easy choice. Gostkowski is emerging as one of the best young kickers in the game, while Adam's starting to look decidedly human at this stage in his career.

In addition to a perfect 10-for-10 on field goals, Gostkowski is the best KO man in the league so far this season, with a whopping 42.9% TB rate and an average return of just 21.0 yards.

By comparison, Vinatieri is 4-for-6 on FGs (2-for-3 inside 40, 2-for-3 outside). He only has two TBs, and the Colts' STs ain't helping him either: his KO gross average is almost 4 yards shorter, and they're allowing nearly 3 yards more per return.

Ditto. It's easy to say that we'd rather have Gostkowski now, he is clearly the better athlete and has a long career ahead of him. BUT, you gotta wonder what the outcome of last year's SB would be if we still had THE most clutch postseason kicker of all time waiting on the bench.
