why cant OConnell start...?

That thought did cross my mind, but we don't need O'Connell to start. Cassel would have to be injured or be completely ineffective for that to happen. Even then, I'm not sure that BB would start a rooky QB.

He could, but Cassel gives the Pats the best chance to win. Once you accept that, everything will be clear. As long as you persist in thinking BB and SP are bad judges of personnel, you will never understand. Give in to the Force, Luke.

Do you actually even watch games or just spew incessant crap?

Ryan is the 25th ranked QB in the league, Flacco the 31st. Cassel even after Miami ranks 15th.

Did you not hear the broadcast crew talking about how you don't ever really want to start a rookie let alone one drawn from a less competitive college division. Atlanta and Baltimore had no choice.

oh yea didnt Ben Rothlisburger start his rookie year? <scratches head>

hmmm

Keep scratching and hmmming. Rothliesberger only started when Tommy Maddox got hurt.

So there's a rule I guess, is that what I'm hearing ?

Only the most experienced QB can start and play no matter what ?

Baltimore had more experienced QBs on the roster, maybe Atlanta didnt have a choice. Rothlisburger started his rookie year, Peyton Manning did, lots of QBs do.

I just dont agree when people say a rookie cant start because he dont know the system.

Yup, and it's been all down hill for Ben ever since. Worst QB to ever win a Superbowl. HC quit the league after he followed that up with his post face plant season. Never matured as a real leader. Down the stretch last season he looked like a punch drunk out of his class prize fighter... Sacked 8 times week and this week isn't looking promising...

Boy, Flacco is really struggling to move his offense against a top flight NFL defense...

For the record the only reason that I even thought of O'Connell starting is because of our Offensive line. That line scares me. I feared for Brady's health all preseason after their pathetic performances. Unfortunately, my fears were valid.
Their recent performances have not filled me with much confidence either. I am starting to fear for Cassel's health too.

Baltimore's "more experienced QBs" both got hurt. That's why Flacco is playing.

No they didn't - they all went MIA before the season started - their projected starter went on IR. and his backup lost 30 lbs battling a tonscil infection. Don't you follow football at all?

so should we go back in the history of the NFL and see which rookie QBs started and you're going to tell us they only started because of injury or the team had no choice?

loool

Not only that, but Pittsburgh had a great team with a top notch Defense and arguably the best running game in the NFL.
Furthermore, Big Ben is a top 10 draft pick...#1 on some boards. He, Manning, and Rivers could have gone 1-2-3 in any order. O'Connell is not in that class.
