NFL Network and ESPN both reported this. I dont agree with the suspension b/c he did not have any intent to hurt him but it was stupid so he deserves whatever the consequences are. At least this scrub wont see the field for us against cincy.

He led with his helmet. If Harrison did this, he'd be out 3 games, fined 100k.

repeat offender countless times > first time offender

Yes, very fair point.

The fine seems good to me, the suspension is the idiot tax on top of the fine. And I imagine alot of people will think twice about helmet hits from now on.

Now, how much are the Jets going to be fined for wearing those Christ awful uniforms?

I dont think there is a total expensive enough for subjecting anyone to these Notre Dame Irish, St Louis Rams hybrid uni's. The frickin mustard pants are ridiculous.

Memories of Eugene Wilson flattening the Colts WRs back in the 2003 playoffs, but the difference is Harrison/Wayne weren't sandwiched between two defenders.

Smith looked to lead with his head and the other defender, instead of using his hands to make a play in front of Boldin threw his shoulder into Boldin in mid air. Glad Boldin isn't hurt seriously but it is so hard to judge the excessive recklessness unless they lead with the helmet or go below the knees.

I would be quite upset if there were no suspensions for the Boldin hit(s). He got hit in the head by the crown of the helmet from both players - the most dangerous way to get hit. This right after the league sent out the memo regarding increased need for player safety.

So stupid that it cost him one-sixth of his salary for the year ($50K + 1/17th of his salary of $445K).

Rhodes was the player who hit him from behind on the play, Rhodes hit Boldin more in his lower back region. I have no issue with the suspension, it was a dumb play.

edit: Rhodes hit him near his shoulders with a shoulder to his back which is perfectly legal and clean, it just so happens that the timing was terrible b/c it gave Boldin momentum towards Smith.

Thank God Anquan wasn't hurt more seriously than he is. The way he fell made me sick in the pit of my stomach. Even though I doubt Smith meant to hit him like that, it is a just punishment. That said, I still hate the Sherriff more than anyone else in this situation.

You are a homer.

If this were Harrison you would be calling for 5 games.

BINGO!!!! Hadn't seen anyone acknowlege this before. I watched the replay several times today. BOTH players lead with their helmet and made helmet to helmet contact.

The punishment doesn't fit the crime in this matter. It should have been much more severe for BOTH..........

like I said before, the punishment for a first time offender when compared to a guy who has been fined and suspended countless times should not be the same

I posted the video on page one near the bottom. Rhodes helmet didnt hit Boldin, his shoulder did.

OK let me make myself more clear. That is a 3 - 5 game and a $100,000 hit. I don't care if it was John Lynch, or Troy Brown.

Re: OT: Jets Safety Eric Smith fined 50K and suspended one game

They were all over us for showing no mercy last year, "running up scores." Has it been mentioned that both of these hits were a bit overkill with 27 seconds left and a 21 point lead? I doubt it.

that is over board, Harrison at his worst never got anything close to that and he has some real malicious shots when he was a Charger. You can not suspend a player for 1/3 of a season for one stupid play and on top of that take nearly his entire salary. For example you would penalize smith more then a player who broke the league substance abuse policy

Why are the cards throwing it with 27 seconds left down 21? I dont want my team to stop playing.

You can observe what happened but you cannot observe intent.

The suspension was for what he did, not what he intended to do.

Technically, since this is a PATS fan site, he isn't a homer.

I'm a homer. He'd be a homer if he went to a Jets board to discuss his team. Here he is just a troll.
