Scout.com: Roundtable: Week 4, Plenty Of Questions

Found this quite by accident. Sorry if It was posted and I missed it.

Excerpt:

With questions surrounding both the offense and the defense, our team experts weighed in on some of the pressing issues affecting the New England Patriots. If fans think the team can win without Tom Brady, the insider's message is clear -- think again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you the optimist as to the Patriots' prospects?

As for the quote, like a bad weather guesser these clowns will have a hundred explanations why they were wrong if the Patriots play like a team again. It is likely no coincidence these predictions came after the first (and a very bad) loss. At the same time, they likely will have plenty of excuses for the Broncos' chances after losing badly to KC, a team the Pats beat without Tom Brady.

Well, I'm a realist, but thanks for remembering. I linked to an article, I didn't state a personal opinion contrary to my earlier opinions.

They should really make the submit button smaller.

When did Renaldo Hill say he knew what the Pats were going to run? What a load of crap. If they did, how did Cassel complete 15/20 to start the game or whatever it was.

a lot of comments are accurate in this article. The DL is overrated and the LB has definitely lost a step. AD is not the player we thought he was.

Cassel is a deer in headlights and even though its only week 4, they need to make a change at qb.

Regarding the one comment that BB is stubborn and wont' bring in a vetran.. We have a complicated offense and someone can't learn it in a few weeks.. Its better to roll with what we have, especially when we spent a 1st day pick on a qb..

And no one mention how Lawerence "glass" maroney can't last an entire season.. or the fact some of the draft picks haven't panned out the past few years.. Last solid pick was Mankins and i like him but he is no way ONE OF THE BEST UP AND COMING OG..

ohh, so its the insiders who doubt us eh...

didnt stop the giants last yr...

or the colts the yr before...

or the steelers before that...

or the pats before them both times...

or teh bucs....

and especially not the 2001 pats...

so i think i trust myself just as much as any insider around here

Do the folks at PatriotsInsider.com post on this board? Most of them seem like the same negative sky is falling guys who post here. I have never heard of any of these guys, but they seem to go way overboard with their analysis.

Their opinions seem for the most part to be right - especially the part about Cassel being a lousy quarterback - Only ball washers see differently and the Deer In Headlights look from Cassel has been said in numerous articles,I don't think its a coincidence that he is a scared rabbit on the field and all the experience he gets this year may not help that.

Belichick did think he could replace any player on the roster and have success - He messed up here because Tom Brady is NOT a guy you can have another unproven raw JAG plug in for and it will be seen when the season is over that that remedy for success is not going to work in this situation - Cassel is no better than a 4th string backup on most teams.

It is too early to tell what kind of QB Cassel is. He had a bad game, but he has started two games. Two starts into Brady's career, Brady was worse than Cassel. Cassel will never be Brady, but it is too late to call him a 4th stringer. He did a good enough job against KC and the Jets.

If Cassel plays well against the Chargers and Colts and they win both games then he will have confidence of most of Patriot fans, until then we patiently want to see him improve as there is nowhere but up after last week...hopefully

You guys do realize the link is to JET Confidential, and these 'experts' are just message board posters right?:

It is actually an article posted originally on PatriotsInsider.com though.

1. You and the rest of the Chicken Littles are being many things, but patient is not of of those things.
2. Last week was nowhere near as bad as you and the rest of the Chicken Littles keep claiming, and there have been plenty of worse QB performances this season.

Cassel's worst rating of the season, against the Dolphins, is 68.1

Feel free to peruse the stat sheets and you'll find plenty of inferior performances from starters this season. Just from this past week:

Fitzpatrick of the Bengals
Cutler of the Broncos
Ryan of the Falcons
O'Sullivan of the 49ers
Frerotte of the Vikings
Rodgers of the Packers
Griese of the Buccaneers
Rivers of the Chargers
Green of the Rams

Your other posts with links to articles seemed to point to the silver lining, so I just wanted to make sure you hadn't gone through some form of awakening during the bye week.

As one of the more prolific posters here, if you lost hope in this season that could be the equivalent of adding the ESPN writers as members of PatsFans.com. There would then be no refuge from that schlock.:)

Haha, no, Cassel for SB MVP all the way. :D

Seriously though, I just thought it was discussion-worthy, especially if (when) they're all proven wrong.

I thought it was scout.com based on the URL, but this clears a lot up.

Particularly how they come up w some "insightful" comments like this:

Scott Pioli had the chance to draft a lot of talented players, but he's missed on every offensive lineman the team has drafted since 2005 when Mankins and Kaczur were added..

Pats draft picks since 05:

2006:

pick #136: Ryan O'Callaghan
pick #205: Dan Stevenson

2007:

pick #171: Cliff Oldenburg
pick #209: Corey Hilliard
pick #247: Mike Elgin

I mean, come on - do people really expect a team that is as stacked 1-53 as the Patriots to be able to carry every offensive lineman drafted in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds? There's hardly room on our practice squad for the likes...so to call Pioli's drafting of OL the last few years a bust is just laughable! The earliest pick on the list is O'Cal, who did contribute his rookie year, and probably would continue to contribute if he weren't derailed by injuries.

Seriously, I don't think many of their points hits the mark. It is like they have some valid points, but then turns everything into hyperboles to hammer the point home. These guys are like callers to WEEI.

Here is what their own website offers in the way of bodefides:

"The Patriots Insider roundtable consists of a group of longtime contributors to the website. "

Would be about like if Ian let the mods or contributing writers here pass themselves off as insiders...

Couple of them sound like some of NEM's old protoges...

Did you even read the article? You're acting like he wrote the trashie stuff himself.

What did you guys think about this point on Josh McDaniels and that he's a concern:

Renaldo Hill a safety for the Miami Dolphins said after last week's game that the Dolphins knew what the Patriots were going to run offensively. McDaniels game plans lack imagination and aggressiveness. Defensive coordinators make adjustments and McDaniels have proven thus far that he cannot adjust his game plan to combat what the defense is doing. I think it is a definite area of concern because he does not have Tom Brady to rely on to sling the ball and read defenses.
