Wasn't he here in 2006...? LOL And he didn't take over as director of college scouting UNDER Pioli until 2003.

He grew up around the game and scouting but he credits Pioli and BB with teaching him to scout for system specific players... That they develop talent like this around them is why a guy like Johnson would encourage most any team devoid of FO leadership to make a run at Scott. It's a compliment, but one he also knows will not likely lead to Scott making the move. Several have tried to pry him away for even better situations (than Detroit) but he shows no inclination to move on from NE any time soon.

There's plenty of great parts of Michigan along the great lakes, so don't knock it...

Also, given how long they kept Matt Millen, it's a lot better landing spot for Pioli than some areas - they should give him 10 years at least given the amount of time they gave to Millen.

The NFL has a strong interest in seeing Detroit be a respectable team - and that includes Bob Kraft - so don't rule this out.

Job security for Pioli would be a plus; OTOH, what does it say for their intelligence that they did keep a confirmed idiot like Mr. Millen on for so long?

Pioli could get more money, he should go. He's already sunk this franchise with his bad picks almost. Still going to the SB this year, but his picks have stunk. :disagreement:

Yeah, I heard that Kraft was about to send BB to the Dolphins to keep the NFL respectable, but then they hired a decent coach. Kraft is now trying to convice the Raiders or Chiefs to take BB.

His job security could not be any better than what it is here, though his salary probably could. But Pioli has already turned down higher salaries in the past, from Seattle and the Giants.

Scott and BB are very close. Scott worked for BB when he was a college student. Scott will stay here for a long time.

I think Jimmy Johnson is having a bit of fun with the Lions.
He knows damn well Pioli ain't going there.
Besides, why would jimmy advise the Lions? Are they paying him consultant fees?

Lots of teams would like to have Pioli given his track record, which is breaking news to nobody. Pioli has gone nowhere despite the apparent interest of other organizations. He is paid well and has a good relationship with the head coach and owner. Kraft would pay him to keep him with the organization if he feels undervalued.

As for Jimmy, as he was one of the few media types to jump to the Pats' defense during Spygate, I'll cut him some slack on his suggestion.

Well, as far suggesting someone who would bring instant credibility and know-how to the job for Detroit, Jimmy Johnson probably couldn't have brought up a better name. As far as suggesting someone who would be actually interested in the position, he couldn't have mentioned someone who is less inclined to accept a potential offer. Unless Pioli just underwent a lobotomy, he's gonna stay in New England for at least five more years. And for my suggestion: don't the Green Bay Packers have someone in their front office they could steal away? Some Ted Thompson assistant who was serving coffee during the Brett Favre saga back in August??
