FOXSports.com has learned that the Giants have suspended Burress for two weeks for failing to show up for work on Monday and not responding to several phone calls by the team to explain his unexcused absence both Monday and Tuesday.

2 weeks, but only one game.

Funny how that happens, and the one game is against a Seattle team that's trying to find an identity.

They can't win without Plax. Both sides know it and is part of the reason he acts the way he does and gets away with a lesser punishment.

I believe rules are that if you give a player a 2 week suspension, it has to be just THAT-2 weeks. IOW-it doesn't matter if a bye is coming up or not. You can't factor in the bye week either way.

Randy may or may not have taken a play off and it is everywhere. Plax doesn't show up and it is not a big deal. Marvin Harrison shoots someone and nobody bats an eye.

A couple thoughts:

1) A few pundits have been saying that Coughlin is punishing the rest of the team as much as Burress by taking him out of the one game. Come on, they play the Seahawks that week! If they can't beat the Seahawks just because they don't have Burress they have serious problems.

2) I don't blame Coughlin one bit - a guy can't make a phone call to let his boss know he won't make it in? And then that idiot Drew "Next Question" Rosenhaus was on TV within hours crying about it. Boo hoo.

The Giants get the benefit of only losing Burress for one game, while the two-game suspension equated to losing four games worth of paychecks.

sounds like he's got some domestic violence issues going on too.

I heard the same thing; this story is really growing legs not only with regard to that issue, but also his team isn't buying his protests to the suspension. Plax claims it was a family emergency but the team's wondering why no phone call at least. The team's sounding pretty down on him which could get interesting down the road.

It's two weeks; the article I referenced incorrectly stated 4/17 of his salary when it is actually 2/17 of his annual salary.

Regardless of the severity of the emergency (assuming that's real), it's not too much to ask for a call at some point over the course of two days. Burress and Rosenhaus are looking foolish appealing this suspension.
