the difference in the teams in this league is the qauterback, without brady we are just another team, cassel has not proved he can play, not in pre season for 4 years and not in the first 3 games 15 for 31 161 yards 2 picks , a touchdown, a strip fumble is the usaul cassel numbers, i dont see this guy getting a 200 to 300 yard game, those stats make us mediocre at best. it will be a long season, and it wont get better until brady returns, the eyes and cassel stats tell you that, cassel in three games against three weak opponents couldnt get one pass down field, he looks shacky and is hesitant, lets face it and dont fool our selves, this will be a long up, and mostly down year, we can only hope brady returns stronger than ever

Without him, we are nothing. We can't even compete with the friggin Dawfins and what are we only missing? Brady! BB is here. A much better receiving corps is here. An incredibly decent running game and front 7 is in our possession, yet we can't friggin compete with the Dawfins. Genius my a**. BB is a joke and will be expose this season.

Sure, I gotta admit BB is looking a little Cleveland lately but...
If you're going to attribute the Pats success largely to Brady than you
must also acknowledge BB's role in his development.
Afterall, he was a sixth rounder.

i agree but cassel has done nothing to inject confidence in me , if you look at his whole body of work as a pro hes done nothing other than being in the system and is a exteremly hard worker, that alone wont win alot of games, im the biggest pats fans going but im also a realist and my eyes tell me hes a 3rd string qb

this is a story of two different matt cassel's

1. will he continue to throw most passes under 10 yards and continually play conservative as directed by the coaches?

2. will they allow him to throw deep and push those safeties back?

for the deep ball to happen the O-line needs to play better or more protection left to block


either way we have such a small sampling of games. let's ust hope he can win against san fran

maybe he's better on the road? who knows. we don't really know much about matt cassell

agreed again, but if he couldnt do it against 3 of the weakest teams i dont think he can do it, what we do know is that when hes played in preseason wether this year or years past he wasnt impressive, in mop up time he throws picks, he gets stripped sacked alot, and he fumbles alot, his pocket presence is not there, Moss by his body langauge doesnt seem to have alot of confidence, all ive seen is screens and dump offs, that will not win you alot of games, that will get you field goals which is what weve gotten this year

Look: a Brady gets you a win in a crazy shootout, and then if you have any sense at all you sit down and say, "okay right but shouldn't we play some D?"

Granted, 13 points doesn't win you many games. But do you guys understand we just gave up 5 TDs (including the pass) to Ronnie Brown... you know, the guy looking over his shoulder at the resin-coated shell of Ricky Williams?

Was Matt Cassel supposed to tackle him (or cover the receivers, or sack Pennington a time or two?)

A LOT broke this game. It was a classic letdown game. This team sucked. I am sure none of that is lost on Belichick.

You guys who are convinced that BB ain't crap after one loss can take a hike. It's as idiotic as Brady being a "system QB" that can't exist without BB. Every play in every win (and every loss) the QB and the coach are BOTH involved. You haven't seen Brady play on a team coached by Lovie Smith. Remember that.

But MOST importantly, it's one loss dum-dums. We're 2-1, not 2-14. Face reality my big fat furry white behind. "Face reality," this team's not done, this season's not over, and you're a wuss to quit on them now. And you need to tell yourself that until/unless this team is mathmatically efreakinliminated.

Any of you guys remember thinking in the middle of 2-4 starts, "we can still make 10-6... it will take a lot... maybe we can squeeze in at 9-7..." ...and then waiting, and being 2-6, and thinking "okay we can still run the table..."?

There are teams like that every year. We use to be one every year. Hell, we MIGHT be one now. But that's when you are SUPPOSED to start believing.

So what, the first time the season's not handed to you on a blue and sliver platter, you say "season's over, it's all Brady, nothing to see here, let's all get some sleep"?

What crap.

I really hope they get it together after the bye. I really hope they're not spoiled too, after they whined about fans whining... there's two sides to it, sure. But this defeatist bullcrap totally pisses me off.

No, it's not. I stated weeks ago that this defense would suck because of who Beioli have put out there. Everytime the defense has a bad game this year, I don't blame the players because it's not their fault. It's not their fault because they shouldn't be out there in the first place. And I mean not having a good DB like Samuel who they could have signed. Or not having a good LB that can cover the pass. When the defense needs Adalius Thomas to cover TE's again, that's not a good sign because nobody else can rush the passer. With that said, Belichick will finally get exposed to the extent that you can't sign subpar players and expect them to do well in your system. Good players make any system go, not the coaches. I can't even imagine how good this defense would be if Belichick put his ego aside and drafted or signed impact players on the defense. Don't get me wrong, the 3 down lineman are fine, it's just their LB's (not named Mayo and Thomas) and secondary need more speed and overall talent. However, Mayo is a good start.

Jim Johnson is a good example of what I'm talking about. Johnson has been known for being a good defensive coordinator for quite a long time but his defenses has struggled the past few seasons because they didn't have much talent along the front seven and secondary. Now their defense is looking alot like their defense in the mid 90's and early 2000's where they were able to blitz the crap out of QB's and have the ability to still cover recievers. The addition of Samuel and not trading Sheppard makes their defense pretty damn good. If the Pats had more talent across the board, then Belichick would look like a genius again.

It's interesting because one of the things said about Matt Cassel was that sometimes he threw too hard. I remember him connecting with CJ during preseason games...I guess it's true- we really DON'T know Matt Cassel. He's been sort of an enigma,he's never really played, and up until recently nobody really cared much about him either. And now, here he is.
