Patriots Fans Need to Find Some Perspective

It's almost hilarious how dead on that article is.

are coming out of the woodwork like roaches when the lights are turned on.

This comment he makes makes no sense to me... when the lights go on, wouldn't the roaches scurry INTO the woodwork?

Ellis Hobbs said:
As soon as they're stabbing you in the back and they're booing, they're ready to pat you [on the back] again.

Am I the only one who feels this attitude will be the end of this team? You want to start a fight with the fans, you feel they are stabbing you in the back?

Man up Ellis, accept that the team had a bad game, and the fans told you you were... Man up and accept the poor performance by the team...

Because if this attitude prevails, kiss this season goodbye...

The idiocy of many of you folks is beyond comprehension!

They should have stood up and cheered them for the accomplishment of winning 21 regular season games in a row - instead the front running losers that were in the stadium that day decided to boo them for a bad half of football.

That is pathetic!

No, but that's nothing to be crowing about.

As Ian said, you lack perspective and I think more importantly the "faculty" or as I prefer capacity to grasp what in this case is pretty obvious. Hobbs gets it because he has capacity in spades...

Which is probably one reason why BB has long contended that Ellis Hobbs is good for this team. I doubt he feels an entitled and irrational and unsupportive fanbase who make excuses ad nauseum for their own pathetic performance almost weekly is.

BTW I'm glad to see Ian making his presence felt here suddenly. Kinda like the good old days... More of that might mean we could remain a popular fan site again without needing to waste money on ever expanding server capacity to cater to the lunatic fringe.

I agree with your point but that would be pretty hard to cheer after that game, I did stay till the end and did not boo during the game but cheering would have been tough

Naaa... If the players take a anti-fans approach to this season... kiss this season goodbye...

They can not survive without the fans...
So the fans Boo'ed, get over it, they played like crap...

LIKE BILL B SAYS, NO ONE IS LOOKING AT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, ONLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

So to all the fans who judged the performance of the day and decided to give them a grade of "Booooo", congrats to practicing the gospel of BB...

I think it's great they won 21 in a row... I think to be honest you guys are making it sound more important than it is... because it excuses the super bowl loss in the middle of that as well as a playoff loss the year before...

But if the attitude of the fans are whinny selfish pricks becomes the mantra of this team... it wil not be good for the long run, and I HIGHLY suspect Kraft is having some talks with people reminding them that they are here becuase of the fans, do not alienate the fans...

Wait! You mean we aren't the worst team in football probably ever?!? You mean it was only one game? You mean me putting the rest of my season tickets in the shreader might not have been a smart thing?

Ummmmm...... Anyone got any tape?

I was there as well and at first I was impressed by the crowd and the amount of noise they generated. Then the booing at halftime was just disgusting - trust me it wasn't hard to cheer as I did at halftime - when thinking back on everything this team has accomplished this decade. They deserve every bit of support they can get, they have earned that and one bad half of football (followed by another) doesn't erase that and definitely doesn't give any "fan" the right to boo, IMO.

I love this attitude. I want the team to play with a chip on their shoulder. I wish they had this attitude before and during the game. I think this type of attitude will make them win more games if anything. They respond well to "Us vs. the World" mentality.

The players were peissed at the home crowd in 2003 (the Titans' game) when they were lifeless during the game except when they flashed the Red Sox scores which got the crowd rocking eventhough the Pats were down. They got a chip on their shoulders then and went on a 15 game win streak (if you count the playoffs).

I think perhaps the players a wee bit spoiled too.

Losing happens. The streak was 'gonna end and with Tom Brady out for the year, expectations are tempered too - whether you want to admit that or not. I get all that. I understand that the Pats won't be "dynastic" forever. I went to the old Foxboro and endured much of the eighties and much of the nineties. Trust me, I am grateful for everything the Pats organization has done for it' fans this past decade. What I don't get is these thin skinned athletes, that put on a performance so putrid they looked like they just laid down, and not expect some of the faithful to boo. Guess Hobbs felt immune to that since he was kicking ass on KO returns? Cool - but it was a KO return and if the defense actually did a decent job, he wouldn't have so many opportunities to hone his return skills. Just sayin'. ;)

I rather them get some chips on their shoulders from what the other teams are saying, and other fanbases with their "fan club shirts"... There is PLENTY of fuel from around the NFL to play with a chip on their shoulders... it shouldn't be focused at their fans...

I am amazed this is considered a new phenomenon in this stadium and the hoopla it is getting after Sunday.

As a refresher, in September 2006, the year the Patriots lost the AFC Championship game, there was booing then. This is an excerpt from Brady's press conference:

Q:. The crowd seemed a little restless there at the end of the first half? Did you notice that? Were you surprised they were booing at you guys?

TB: I don't blame them. I don't think we gave them much reason to cheer. They want to see us do some things offensively, put the ball in the end zone, and we turned the ball over. We can't complete a pass, and I would be booing up there too if I was them.

I vividly recall this because it seemed odd. I do not remember if this was the first time I heard it or not, I more remember Brady's response to the question.

Do I personally think silence is a better response to a team that apparently doesn't show up to work? Yes. Do you become Mandy of the Patriots pep squad and head cheer-ator when a team goes belly up like it did on Sunday? No, and it is unreasonable to expect that response when you are staring at a legitimate train wreck of a game.

This quote comes from a season one year removed from a Super Bowl win, but surprisingly got little notoriety, probably because Brady, the 2-time Super Bowl MVP, said the performance merited boos and came out and won the game.

Again, I am not in favor of booing, but players should play to win for themselves and share that with the loyal fans. Fans should provide the 12th man to help them to win or battle back when they are clawing to do so. Unless the 12th man were actually on the field obstructing Brown's various paths to the end zone, the players should take the fan response as dissatisfaction to the performance (which I am sure the film review will shine forth like a search light on Monday) and nothing more. It was not the whole stadium, it was some fans. This issue is getting way overblown. The team is great. Fans are spoiled. We understand. Moving on.

One comment by one player is no big deal. I kinda agree with the guy. It isn't like this fan base is going to turn on the Patriots.

I will take the chip on their shoulders any way they can get it. They got it from the Pats fans in 2003 and they did pretty well especially on defense. And before people talk about the Brady/Cassel comparisons, we had four games that year that the Pats didn't score a single TD.

Handled like a true professional athlete...
TB is a gem...

It wouldn't have been half as bad if they were actually cheering the team on trying to give them some energy when they needed it. But all they did was boo the team of the decade. Hobbs didn't say anything I wasn't thinking when it happened.

I wasn't aware Sunday's game tickets were sold at major discount prices so that fans actually 'owed' something the players. If a guy wants to bail on a 3 TD blowout with 10mins left so he doesn't rot on Route 1 for hours (wasting gas and time during the last few hours of his day off) then that is up to him. If Ellis has a problem with that, then make a come back so the guy and 20,000 other bailers can regret it.
These are the same fans that pack the house in sub-0 temps to support the team...paying more for their frozen seats than someone in a cushy, warm dome.
I understand our players work hard and want our support...but they should keep their concentration between the white lines and allow the fans who spend big bucks (in a crappy economy) on tickets, programs, and jerseys some slack.
