He said the Pats are like that perfect family that is tightly wound that every thing looks perfect at first but one kid grows up to do drugs and the daughter turns into a "Goth Chick". He said that if the Pats strew together a few losses this team is going to fall apart. He points to Moss alligator arming a pass as the sign that the players are ready to crack in New England.

Ironically, he compared them to the Cowboys who are like the family who may have kids who get C's, but the are always happy and the kids grow up to be well adjusted adults. If things go wrong, they just roll with the punches.

I know Cowherd is a Cowboys homer, but is he really serious with this? Does anyone other than him think that if the Cowboys and the Pats both string together 3-4 losses that it is the Pats more likely to fall apart at the seams? With TO, Patrick Crayton, and Pacman Jones? With Wade Phillips as the head coach with Jason Garrett looking over his sholder and his abismal playoff record? With Belichick and his winning system and abilities to find a way to win and create motivation out of nothing? With proven leaders like Harrison, Bruschi, Faulk, Seymour, etc. who have proven to overcome adversity like the whole Spygate Scandal, Milloy being cut 5 days before the season, and Terry Glenn trying to hold the team ransom?

I know Cowherd has to create interesting storylines every day, but let's get real. Other than Moss short arming one pass, what evidence is there that the Pats' players are ready to rebel against Belichick? You can point to Moss' past history, but his past history is no worse the TO's.

i think cowherd's wrong, moss may get disinterested in football, but terrel owens attempts suicide

big difference

You have to remember that these douchebags at ESPN are climbing all over each other to talk the Pats down.

We'll see how much **** they talk when the 'Skins beat the Cowgirls this weekend and the Pats beat SF coming out of the bye.

Of course it depends on the circumstances, but they would have an easier time getting through their rut simply because they have Tony Romo and we have Matt Cassel. All that other stuff you point out is valid but Romo v Cassel (note: If we do lose 3 or 4 games in a row, and I'm not saying we will, it would presumably be at least in part because of Cassel) is significant. I do agree there is basically no evidence of anything like this happening with the Pats at this point.

I believe if I heard correctly he was broadcasting his show out of Dallas today, so perhaps he was just trying to make some friends.

I can see faint traces of truth in what's being said:

It wouldn't be unimaginable for Moss to become discontented if Cassel doesn't progress. Unfortunately, Moss would be as much to blame for this as anyone. He's not 220 lbs of tough muscle like a TO or Brandon Marshall who can can get on track by getting involved and taking over the middle of the field if that's what it takes. He's not going to hit a tackler head on and break free for 20 more yards. He needs a qb who knows the system he's in and can deliver the deep ball.

If the nature of what's being said is that Cowboys players are not being reigned in emotionally at all, then they're not going to 'snap' so to speak.

Otoh, Pats players, due to the nature of their successes and expectations, don't seem to get too high on the wins, nor do they seem to show much to the media in the losses.

The Pats have been successful for the entire decade, and their misses have almost all come at the hands of the eventual champ. The Cowboys are only recently starting to assemble a 'could be' team. Even if they win this year, it guarantees nothing for them.

a. Phillips was supposed to be a stop gap hire while Garret gained experience.
b. TO is getting old.
c. Crayton is nothing to build an offense around, and Glenn should be done soon.
d. The Barbarian is awesome, but they can only afford Jones for his rookie contract.
e. Pacman Jones? Whatever.

This team will only be good as long as that behemoth o-line is there, and their defensive line is intact.

He got a little carried away but Sunday's game was the first time the Pats actually trailed this year.....and they were down a lot early on. This team hasn't seen a 15-point halftime deficit since 2005....and most of our players weren't on the team back then.

So maybe it was a little shocking to be 1) down by 15 at half 2) at home and 3) to the Dolphins....and they just didn't have the horses to rally back. Maybe it will teach them a hard lesson about coming out flat in the first half.

I think the biggest problem with Cowherd's logic is he is looking at Moss and putting his perceived attitude on the rest of the team. Moss even in buying into the Patriots way has never been 100% the same as a lot of other players. he still marches to the beat of his own drum. Even if the Doomsday Scenario happened with Moss and he does become a lazy malcontent, he is not the rest of the team. There isn't a single other player on this team who has ever shown even the slightest diversion of the Patriots way.

On the other hand, there has been problems with multiple players on the Cowboys side. TO has been far more of a disruption in the past than Moss ever way. Crayton likes to run off his mouth. Romo has a rep of being distracted by outside interests and not working hard. Greg Ellis has been outspoken with his displeasure with the team and his role in it. Where do I begin with Pacman?

I think when it comes to adversity, character matters. There are far more character players on the Pats than the Cowboys. Other than Moss, there isn't a single player on this team who has ever said anything publically that could be considered a distraction to the team or outside the Patriots Way.

I could not possibly fathom listening to Colin Cowherd by choice. I will take ANYONE on WFAN or WIP over him any day of the week.

Oh, and he's also wrong. Jesus, the sky sure does fall alot on ESPN.

AND, goth chicks are usually pretty hot. So there is nothing wrong with that.

The Cowboys are one of the most emotionally sensitive items in the league. This offseason even their coaches were talking about playing with a "swagger". You know what BB thinks about "swagger" right?

Another good post. He does have a point but he's comparing apples and oranges. Our way has won 3 rings and 4 conference championships in 7 years, while the Cowboy way has won nothing in decades. When they lose it gets tense in Dallas, and moreso for the team than the fans. When we lose it's just the opposite. Fans freak and the team just moves on to the next task.

Randy may be a wildcard here, but one bad apple will never spoil our pot. Might impact a season adversely in the absence of The Franchise, as it certainly would in Romo's absence in Dallas..., but this team and our QB and his HC are far more adept at moving on from game to game and season to season than the Cowboys are. Talent aside they remain just a few rough outings/tough breaks away from chaos, which is kinda how they play the game. It's probably more fun to be them for 17 weeks a season, but after that fun approach starts to wear thin.

YES....they hate their coach.

You also have to remember, Cowherd is a Patriots homer.

This coming from the guy that used to talk about his married life ad boast about it and ridicule Belichick's married life constantly, only to have a kid, abandon the kid and his wife a couple months after the kid was born, so he could hang out with a young intern.

I'm supposed to listen to family-life metaphors from him?

I think he misses a few things:

Moss has 9 million reasons to play hard

Brady didn't die. He'll be back next year.

It's been two games. Matt Cassel is not Tom Brady. Besides maybe he was disgusted with the defense. I was.

Bingo! I heard it and it was a bit of a stretch for him to make the poor analogy. He would have been better off to compare the Pats to the Colts but since the Colts are also not winning it wouldn't make sense.

Well, let's see how the Cowboys react after the 'Skins go down there and beat them this week.

...that's right, I said that...

is that you TO's publicist?

Poor Colin. Imagine the worst about Randy Moss as predicted by the many dim lights of the national media circus, just imagine it, picture it exploding in the Pats' lockerroom... Enter the white knight. Pennons flapping, armor gleaming, a smile on his face and the calm of a professional flowing around him. Welcome Troy Brown, nice to have you home - cleanup on aisle three please. Problem solved.

Oh, Cowherd just likes to hear himself talk, and most of the time he's actually pretty funny. He's also totally wrong, because when you come right down to it, the Pats have an excuse for losing this year, whereas the Cowboys do not. Even if the season is a trainwreck, the team won't fall apart, because at the end of the day, there is a big reason out of everyone's control why they couldn't match last year's performance. I do hope Moss can hold it together, both as a team player and when everyone questions his loyalty and focus all year long, as they are already starting to do. I trust that BB & co. are doing the best they can under the circumstances and playing all the "us against the world" cards in private.
