With an inexpierienced QB, and an inconsistent O-line, it would be nice to have a reliable short range target, and/or someone who can really block. And I could swear I saw Watson get run over a few times sunday.
Is it just me, or are we getting pretty much nothing frokm the TE position so far this year?
I hate to add to the negativity around here, but I'm a bit concerned.
Anyone else?

Dave, you're crazy

I agree with you. Bet BB drafts one this year. Watson has not lived up to his potential imo and is always hurt.

Totally.
And Thomas seems to be hurt even more than Watson.

I haven't liked the TE situation since they let Graham go. I don't expect it to improve this season with the two oft-injured receiving TEs on the roster.

Graham was a good blocker. We could use him now.

Where's Kyle Brady?
Yeah.. I forgot about him. Is he hurt?

Didn't Kyle almost walk off the team last year because he was unhappy?

Graham was the man blocking....slam ya like you were a blocking sled.

Miss that guy, did last year as well.

Kyle brady lost his position with the Patriots after his pathetic blocking in the Superbowl.

And here I thought he was auditioning to be a turnstyle........

Which is why I couldn't understand the pick in the third this year.
Thought we should have gone for a blocking TE or a Tackle.
This O Connell guy must be really something.
And yeah, we really do miss Grahmbo big time around here.

Nick Kaczur could sure use Graham's help.

for all the talk Watson received on his strength and speed at the combine his technique in blocking needs improvement.

Watson needs a couple games under his belt before his blocking starts to improve, it's just what I've observed and Miami's visit supports that view. While we hoped he'd develop as the blocker the way Graham did...**sigh** That said, he brings speed at the TE position which has created a few mismatches on LBs and Ss. I think, overall, he has provided end of the first round value.

Dave Thomas surprised me his rookie year with his blocking, not Grahambo strong, but quite solid. He was lost to injury last season. This year he looks like he's gotten a rookie infusion, and lost all his blocking skill. He's also slipped in his receiving too, those college and rookie year hands have been replaced by something a little harder and less reliable.

I've received a couple negative responses in the draft forum for ranking TE high in my early assessment of 2009 team needs. Games like these first three from the TEs are working hard to make me look smaht.

I think you've got to put more of this on the QB, regarding receptions. Thomas was open on more than one ocassion where Cassel either didn't see him or missed him.

This year or last game? Were there problem weeks one and two also?

I noticed Watson missed a block, but did not see that as an indictment of the entire TE situation this year, especially as I'm not sure how much better the TEs were last year if you compare this year to last year.

At least once when Ben was open, the pocket had already been destroyed. Cassel wasn't making a play out of that mess.

The offensive line looked lousy the first preseason game and still

looks terrible. When you have a quarterback in training, the line

has to block well enough to give him a little extra time. Cassel

is not sure enough of himself to get the ball away quickly like Brady.

A lot of people are putting things on the QB, it's the easy way out and popular for that reason.

Dave Thomas was getting manhandled by Bryan Thomas in the Jest game, he did better when he was allowed to work on Pace, but he was still disappointing. Sunday I recall Thomas dropping at least one ball, and I'll need to take my time watching that game in order to find a good block from the TE position...but heh, it's all on the QB. Let's grab a beer and b*tch about BB's failure to sign a more proven loser.

We need to use Watson like Clevland uses Windslow JR, or how Shockey was used...

His main asset is to run routes in the open field... as long as you keep him in to block, it lets a LB off the responsibility to cover him and you left with an average NFL TE... When watson stays in to block, there is nothing special about him.

When he is able to run a route ( line him up as a WR sometimes ) he would be great...
