SI: How Cassel became a Patriot

Success because of Cassel - Are you serious?

Game 1 - The Pats Defense avoids overtime by stopping the Chiefs inside the 5 with seconds to go

Game 2 - The defense pressures Favre much of the game and the secondary was superb in covering the receivers and Lamont Jordan moved the chains everytime he was asked to.

What you said is insulting the reason this team won those 2 games - It was DEFENSE and a controlled offense limiting mistakes

Cassel has played well considering what he is being told to do and that is manage the game and has not made rookie-like mistakes but DON'T say success in beating 2 scrub teams is because of Cassel - not true
I have to wonder what game you were watching...and your sarcasm shows..Insulting?? The D at the end..did a GREAT job..but THAT would have meant SQUAT,,had there NOT been a 98 yard drive by Cassel earlier...Did you miss that one? Could Brady have done any better? That was a GREAT drive by Cassel..with a 54 yard pass to Moss..did you miss that one as well? By the way..the D ALMOST blew it by allowing a long pass to Darling before they finally made a goal line stand.
Jordan did a great job as did the D..but it was also offensive drives that got points on the board..limited offense or not..points. And even in that game, the D had times of poor tackling on short passes allowing many more yards after a catch to occur.
This is a strong D..but nothing at this time close to the 86 Bears..or even the old Ravens.
Cassel had a large positive impact in Game one..and to a lesser degree in Game two, but to ignore that fact is just as insulting to the team.
The TEAM won both games..offense, defense, special teams..

This is the problem with having an agenda: it makes you post silly things and defend ridiculous assertions. In your case, it's the anti-Cassel starting point that makes you look silly.

In Minnesota, for example, the Vikings have been using DEFENSE and a controlled offense limiting mistakes. How've they been doing with T. Jackson at quarterback? Now, name me the quarterbacks that aren't asked to manage games and limit mistakes. Also, when did chucking bombs to wideouts become "managing" a game?

Don't compare the coaching staff of Minnesota with New England's who do better with non experienced guys than most teams - Thats a silly comparison

When Cassel is throwing 'bombs' against a defense that is not the youngest in the league like KC and with more savvy veterans in the secondary better than the joe shmoes that KC has we can argue who is right

As of now no one including myself has a clue on what Cassel is capable of on offense against elite teams - You certainly don't so lets not advance guess until then - O.K.?

The Jets and KC have LOUSY defenses and is why their record is what it is

I am serious.

- As 726 attempted to remind you, Cassel made the read and the throw that moved NE out of their end zone on his "first" pass attempt after replacing an injured Tommy - that is called "clutch."
- Cassel was 6 for 7 on pass attempts in the first quarter of the Jester's game, he led the team to scores on his first two drives despite the Jesters tough run defense (Since you're hooting about Jorden's running, are you one of the Maroney bashers? You can't bash Maroney's running and also complain about people giving Cassel credit, should that be your contention.)
- No interceptions. Is that "because" of Cassel or in spite of him? I know what I think.

He's done a good job, and he's made critical plays when they needed to be made. I am serious, Cassel has been successful and is a big reason for the 2-0 start. I expect that trend to continue for "at least" a division winning season. Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride.

No, it's an apt comparison. You were the one who set parameters. Don't go moving the goalposts now.

You know he tossed one against the R-A-T-S too, right? So, we don't need to 'argue who is right'. Thus far, he's gone deep at least once in each game.

As of now no one including myself has a clue on what Cassel is capable of on offense against elite teams - You certainly don't so lets not advance guess until then - O.K.?

The Jets and KC have LOUSY defenses and is why their record is what it is

And here you go changing your argument again. The argument you posed here was about the first two games, not about future games "against elite teams".

But you haven't been letting reality and facts get in the way of your silliness about Cassel so far, so why start now, right?

Some posters have to keep moving the goalposts because they made assinine kneejerk assessments about everything from backup QB to the defense in the preseason...not to mention repeatedly pointing out that BB is not god and he makes lots of mistakes. That doesn't leave much room for pure enjoyment but rather necessitates rationalizing results. When we finally beat an elite team believe me he will then change his assessment of their eliteness...

Digging oneself further into rather than out of holes has become the real passtime here at patsfans.com - best fans on earth...LOL

Good find, I had heard that Chow really coveted Cassel!
Yes, this was a heated topic here at Patsfans after the 2005 draft. Many here thought it was waste of a draft pick, that if we hadn't drafted him, he'd be available as a UFDA.

Others of us thought that as a UFDA Cassel could pick where he wanted to go, and he would select the Titans because of hte Nrom Chow connection.

It's good to see how it was.

"My point to Scott and Bill was, if we didn't draft him, we'd probably get outbid [in postdraft free agency]," said Russell, now a national scout for the Eagles. "As a scout with New England, you're lucky because Scott and Bill listen to you."

Leading up to the 2005 draft, the Patriots were typically closemouthed about their interest in Cassel. Tennessee, as it turned out, badly wanted Cassel, and Chow, the Titans' new offensive coordinator at the time, said he was stunned when he saw New England take him with the 230th pick.

It was DEFENSE and a controlled offense limiting mistakes

Cassel has played well considering what he is being told to do and that is manage the game
You make it sound as if that is easy. "Hey, QB, just go out there and don't make any mistakes."

It is an old tired arguement with merit that it is easy for a bad QB to win games if he is told, "Just manage the game and don't make mistakes."

Not making mistakes is not easy. There were a lot of mistakes made by a lot of QBs the past two weeks, and your argument that Cassel is not a good QB because he doesn't make mistakes and that most of the short passes he completes are under 20 yards is silly.

Minnesota's defense is as good as ours, so why didn't they tell Taveres just complete 70% of short passes and don't make any mistakes? Well, they probably did, but he couldn't do it because it isn't easy completing a lot of passes, even short ones, and there are a lot of mistakes to be made in games, not just INTs.

Just admit you were wrong, that Cassel is a far superior player than you ever imagined and that right now he is outplaying both of the guys he sat behind at USC.

You don't have to say he is a better QB, just admit the truth: He is outplaying both those guys.

And the worst part is that when Cassel struggles, someone like patsfaninpa will be here with the "I told you so's."
