So, let's see what we think so far. Seems like the villagers are ready to storm the village and burn down the "Cassel".

Line 'em up. This is a poll.

I went with vet signee, though besides someone like Vinny, it's basically a blind guess. That said, I could see the vet only being around for a month or so, until BB is comfortable that O'Connell can handle a pressure situation better than said veteran.

I wonder if something like 5th QB (vet) could happen in the Pollard void and that gets sorted by week #1? Odds are that empty place goes to Pat's vet (Seau or Law) or a rookie, so maybe NOW is the time to hunt that vet down?

I went with Tom, Cassell, and O'connell

Despite Cassell sucking it up my reason was one guy has the most knowledge(other than Brady) the other has the most talent (other than Brady). Tough to let Guit go but more important things to the team than developing him.

Unless Gutierrez turns in the performance of a lifetime against the Eagles first stringers on Friday evening, my guess is he's headed to the PS since he's eligible. I sense he's pressing because he knows that. He's been unable to pass Cassel on the depth chart after a full off season and training camp, and that is what he would have had to do to get a foothold on the #2 slot. And while the PS would potentially mean he's here again next season, it would likely mean he's back as the #3 to O'Connell unless he fails to develop at all.

Well, there are worse fates for a journeyman QB than the Pats' practice squad . . . like the active roster for the JEST. :p

4 QBs. Cassel replaced by a vet.

We also need a back up drop kicker, bring back Flutie.....

I chose #4 and I don't think it should even be close to the other options

I'd like to see us drop Cassel and get a vet signee and maybe keep one of O-Con or Gut by some other means like PUP or the practice squad or other tricks that NFL coaches use to keep players for the future I don't understand, but I think it'll be Brady, Gut and O-Con

Gutz has failed to impress in camp. Didn't show much in game one. Since it's possible the Pats could have their cake and eat it too by placing him on the PS, that's my vote for him.
Leaves us with Cassel vs a vet. I'd be surprised if BB found a vet (not on social security) that he thought would be compatible with his QB criteria. So a magical #2 vet is unlikely in my view.
I rejected just 2 QBs because O'C has not had the reps in camp required to accelerate his development as a possible #2. Having Cassel allows O'C's development and evaluation to proceed rationally without sudden over the top pressure.

Brady-Cassel-O'Connell

Bottom Line: we won't be trading Cassel for a nice draft pick next April

I think the great thing about this situation is now Cassel's stock is so low I doubt ANYONE picks him up when cut. Gut still can get to the PS, so I think we keep 2 QBs with Cassel being that vet we call off the couch if TB gets hurt.

Interesting poll. A majority of fans here think Gutz will be on the team while less than a quarter think that Cassie stays. Can't wait till September to see what BB thinks.

This is easy i think....Brady, Gut, and O'Connell...Cassell proved that he is completely worthless against the Bucs....Horrible reads and he will be gone.

Bump!

last chance to go on record before cuts

My mindset has shifted on this a little. I'm thinking if Cassel DOES get the axe, Gut goes as well. Just a hunch, I'm no fly-on-the-wall. ;)

Since this is now "Bump That Thread" week I'd like to dislocate my shoulder and pat myself and the 29% of astute Patsfans who had Matt Cassel making the team along with Brady & O'Connell. Sadly, over 70% of the folks here were clueless. :snob:

My wife says I'm a he, so who am I to argue.

But yeah, I thought he was gone at first. Took a bit of education on the pre-season to hook this brotha up. ;)
