According to an article by Bill Reynolds...

Bill Reynolds -- Randy Moss tells magazine how he became a Patriot, and much more | New England Patriots | projo.com | The Providence Journal

It seems that in April 2007, Moss’ name came up in trade rumors, and he and his agent were in a nightclub in Houston when his phone rang. It seems it was Tom Brady, and Brady wanted to talk to Moss about becoming a New England Patriot.

...

Moss tells Brady on the phone that night that he can conform to the Patriots’ way of doing things, Brady gets on the phone to Belichick, the deal gets talked out, Brady says he needs to get Robert Kraft to agree, and then Brady tells Moss to get to Boston as quickly as he can, and the rest is history.

The best quote from that article...

“I’m sitting there and Belichick says to the team, ‘Let me tell ya’ll something,’ and he looked at me and said, ‘I don’t care what you’ve accomplished in your career,’ looking right at me. ‘I don’t care where you come from, what you’ve done, what teams you’ve been on in the past. Here, we do it my way.’ So after the meeting, a bunch of guys were ribbing me, ‘Yeah, Moss, he’s talking to you.’ ”

That's a great read, Thanks for posting.

Re: Brady was mover and shaker to get Moss to NE.

Brady publicly said that he wanted to have WR in 07. He got 2. It was a good story.

Re: Brady was mover and shaker to get Moss to NE.

“Coach will cut anyone up. He’ll cut Junior Seau. Man, when he cut Tom Brady up I knew it was cool. Tommy had a play where the DB had jumped the route, I ran an out route, but Tom hitched on the throw and threw it a little late. He tried to lead me a little bit further, but I couldn’t catch it ’cause I was already at the sidelines.

“So the next morning in practice, we knew something was coming. Coach says, ‘Hey, I’m supposed to have one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game and you’re sitting here trying to tell me you can’t throw a ……five-yard out? If I want to complete a five-yard pass, I’ll go down the street and get the local high school team’s quarterback, and see if he can do it.’

“So, I’m thinking, if he gets at Tommy like that, then I’m straight with it. He gets every single person. When he ripped Brady, I was ready to get mine.”

I heard Bill finally made good ont hose words, too... :D

Re: Brady was mover and shaker to get Moss to NE.

We knew Tommy was involved though it's still not clear at what point he entered the negotiations. His job was to make sure Randy wanted to be here more than anywhere/anything else so it became a fairly one sided low risk negotiation. When they sat him down in Foxboro, the deal wasn't reportedly done until he broke down and asked the powers that be to "just get me outta there" (Oakland).

This makes me miss the Brady-Moss show again. Awesome article, but any reminder of the Brady+Moss greatness we've been deprived of this season stings a little bit at this point.

Yeah. I hope Moss stays top notch a couple more years and we get to see it next year again. Be nice to make the playoff's this year and next, with two diff QB's.

I still think Cass and Moss will start hooking up a lot, but I'd eat my shoes if it was 3/4's as awesome.**

**Please, Lord, let me be right, just this one time...

the best thing about BB is he NEVER criticizes his players publicly. All of them are working hard and all of them are accountable after a loss. rarely he points out someones mistake in the media. i remember vrabel saying once that thats what he likes and has learnt from BB that he never overly praises anyone but doesnt criticize anyone specifically either which is great.

Personally, I wouldn't expect 3/4th, I wouldn't even expect 1/20th - and that's no slight on Cassel, it's just he's no Brady. And even if Brady and Moss had a full season together here in 08, I don't know if they could match the sheer awesomeness of last season. It was just one highlight play after another.

I would expect that the Brady Moss show will return to a high level in 09 & 10 - and as long as those two are together, the Patriots will be a favorite to win the Super Bowl.

The reality is that Moss has already "lost a step" compared to his former burner self - its his football intelligence, ball skills, and physical attributes that made him so great last season, not necessarily speed, although his ability to change gears with the ball in flight is crucial. Moss' high football IQ won't drop with age, and he's not going to shrink, so despite what a lot of folks might say, I think Moss stays elite at least through the end of this current contract, and maybe beyond.

Without Brady, i don't think Cassel is playing right now.

Brady is still BB's favorite son :)

Re: Brady was mover and shaker to get Moss to NE.

Good read there. Yeah I think that BB ripping the best and the worst players equally is one way he gets respect. He doesn't play favorites, he just wants to see people "do their jobs."

Re: Brady was mover and shaker to get Moss to NE.

I have read the entire article from Blitz. It is quite good. I know Randy loves bass fishing but I did not know that Randy loves springboard diving. Not watching...doing. Great story.

Good post...great story!! I also think Cassel will hit Moss with passes...when he's not covered as he was, like Sunday..the fact that MOss can bring 2 to cover him also opens up other options..so there is MUCH credit to Moss even with him not catching many balls...Moss did have a big day opening day..and a few tosses from Cassel.

Great read.

Did anyone catch the other night during the Dallas vs. Philly game? They were talking about most TD's by active QB's to WR's....and they proudly list Romo to TO leading the list at 28TD...then they show Brady to Moss in second at 23. I started screaming at the TV..ONE FKNG SEASON GUYS!! and then I barely hear Jaws mention the one season.....and just a little chuckle from the other two clowns.

I don't get this... What about Manning to Harrison > 100, Manning to Wayne > 40 .... Something is missing, and trust me I am no Manning lover... Just wondering what they were discussion.

Great read.

2009-2011 are going to change all of that.

I forgot to mention: The stat was framed as "Since romo came into the league" or something like that.......you know how ESPN will frame statistics to wax poetic about the topic at hand..
