Felger just said on the mid-day show that Troy is definitely retiring AND that he actually turned down an offer from the Jets to play this season, cementing his legacy as the ultimate Patriot forever.

I  #80

ETA: he also hinted that troy may have a deal in place to join the Comcast team.

Nice...

Congrats Troy on a great career!

Hopefully they have a ceremony soon, maybe the MNF Denver game.

Yeah, I just heard that, also. Just another reason to admire him (Troy, not Felger!).

Mike Reiss spoke to Troy today and he said he's not ready to retire yet and there is still a chance he might play...

Felger just wants you all to tune in to Mohegan Sun Sports tonight <ca-ching>.

Sounds like Troy might be on the same team as Seau.

Troy turned away JETS money. A life lesson here. Memo to self Turn down that job offer from Al Quaeda

those dirty rats trying to snag one of our all time greatest players

Good for you Troy! Resist the lure of dirty gangrene money!

You hear about players signing with another team late in their careers "for the love of the game". (Seems like that just happened recently, hmmm, can't seem to remember now...) I would think that for players like Seau and Brown, after experiencing the Pats approach to playing team football, "the game" takes on a whole new meaning, and it would have to be pretty darn hard to love another team's way of doing it. I'm sure Troy came to that.

A bona fide majorly contributing 3-way player (Off., Def., ST), has the league seen anyone else his equal in that regards in the past 30 years? About the closest to that I can think of would be Deion Sanders, but I wouldn't call him a regular offensive contributor, and never a major factor on offense.

Definitely one the greatest Patriots...and team football players...ever. Perhaps his comparative stats may not support that claim, but he is the true epitome of a team football player.

reason number 1,237 to retire this mans number.

I cannot fathom Robert Kraft not doing it once he is officially-finally-no turning back retired.

Definitely one of my favorite Patriot players ever.

High character, work ethic, and absolutely money on 3rd down.

Is Ted Johnson the last guy who played his entire career with the Pats? Good to see that Troy felt the same loyalty to the team that the fans do. I hope him and Bruschi both retire as Patriots.

The NFL is actively discouraging teams from retiring numbers except in obvious cases (e.g., a few years from now, 12).

Given that fact, I think a fitting alternative would be immediate inclusion in the Pats' HoF.

I don't ever want to see other patriots players wearing 80, 54 nor 12!

F them, IMO he deserves it

Don't care what the NFL thinks- I hope 80 gets retired.

If the Krafts let this man retire quietly, I'm gonna be PISSED. He deserves a great send-off. And I have complete confidence that the Krafts realize the fans love for this man and will do the right thing.

All the more reason to do it, not that additional justification is necessary.
