Troy Brown to formally retire

Troy Brown is my favorite Patriot of all time. He's right up there with Brady, Cunningham and Hannah, but he gets the nod because of his versatility, which is what this Dynasty has been all about. How many huge first downs did he make on the suicide cross patterns? How many times was he the man taking that last kick-off or punt to ice the game when no one else could be trusted? The year he was pressed to play d-back and handled it so well...on and on....

Here's to Troy Brown!...:eat1:

Troy's the MFing man. I remember back when my fantasy football team's name was simply "I love Troy Brown". That pretty much sums it up.

Dear Troy,

As others have said here, you epitomized everything that has made tihis team great. Your unselfish play has been an inspiration to your teammates and legions of fans. I too am grateful that you wore only one uniform, and wore it with so much class. As my teenager , who would only wear #80, said, "Troy Brown is Mr. Patriot."

All the best to you and your family in the future.

I call upon all of Patriot Nation to write, e-mail or call the Krafts and the New England Patriots to designate November 30, 2008 as Troy Brown Appreciation Day at Gillette Stadium. The ceremonies can be held prior to the game with Troy being named honorary captain for the game.

BTW - that game, that day, will be against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Can we wait to see if he actually announces his retirement first?

Troy Brown 24 - Pittsburgh Steelers 17

Troy ignited this team's run to dominance.

A Patriot great will be missed. If there's one guy you would want to see added to the coaching staff/organization, it's this guy.

BB and Bob Kraft, like Andre Tippett, please keep Troy in the Patriot family.............

I do agree..there were question marks from the article...are we rushing this a bit quick??

I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but Monday night the ESPN guys were talking about the T.O. circus. Chris Carter said something to the effect that what T.O. should do is take a look at Troy Brown's career and see what teamwork and dedication did for his career - 3 Super Bowl rings, etc. It came out of nowhere, but I thought it was a great compliment to a guy that is the finest example of teamwork anyone can think of.

Good stuff. Troy never had the physical gifts of a T.O. (or even Chad Jackson), but he was the perfect model of a dedicated, team-first professional -- the kind of person you're lucky to work beside in any walk of life.

And one more way he can be a model to younger players: I remember reading an article once about how Troy and his wife were careful financial planners, living largely off her salary and devoting most of his to long-term investments and charity.

I agree. Probably a good idea to wait until the Patriots team site announces the news. Until then, this projection could just be the product of Troy informally stating he did not think he would wait much longer to catch on with a team this season.

Cant find the reference but at one point I believe Parcells said Troy Brown was (one of?) the best draft picks he ever made.

Best memories are easy:

OT Bomb Against Miami
Strip in SD January 2006
Reception during 'the drive' and gets out of bounds
Fake FG pass from Vinatierri to Brown @ St Louis

4 Great memories! The OT grab in Miami is my absolute favorite Patriots play of all time. How about when he got an interception off of Drew Bledsoe & the joke was Bledsoe couldn't resist throwing to him one more time!

Thanks for all the memories Troy! Too bad time marches on and none of us stays young!!

Looks like I'll officially need to find a new favorite Patriot then. For all the people listing his best plays, the one that not many remember was his best of all: falling flat on his back on the icy turf in Giants Stadium, on fourth down, and still reaching up to catch a Drew Bledsoe rifle shot to convert the first and give the Patriots a chance to win back in 1996. Came from 22-0 down to win that game, and without Troy making that miraculous catch on that final drive, it never happens.

Now trhey can have the day to honor Troy. I think Boib Kraft has a position waiting for Troy if he wants it.

I was always dreading the day he was going to retire. Troy was always my favorite player and I thank him for all he did to help this team win.

The punt return for a TD against the Steelers was one of my favorite moments. We went crazy and my kids and their cousins came running in the house from playing on the street and asked what was going on, they could hear people in their houses up and down the street screaming.:D

Troy,

You will always be one of my favorite players of all time. The way you played the game was absolutely the way it should be played. Three way football. I will be wearing your Jersey for years to come. It was that will always be worn in this town. Thanks for the titles and years of great WR play and an extra big thank you for saving the secondary those years. Do you have any kids who we can sign in a few years to play with Baby Brady :D.

Thank You very much
SBB

PS: how many players get to say they caught a TD from a guy and had an interception off the same guy?

he will be missed by all

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are holding a ribbon-cutting today for their sparkling Hall of Fame and one of the team's all-time greats -- Troy Brown -- is in attendance.

Brown chatted briefly with reporters this afternoon. Asked if he was ready to officially close the book on his career, Brown indicated he wasn't ready to say that at this time.

"We'll see," he responded. "There's always a chance [of playing]."
