Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

We all need to stop making DUMB threads...

This board already has mods and they probably don't need your help.

Concern for Moss's psychology is not dumb. If you have played football you know the mental aspect of the game is extremely important. Moss didn't look happy out there. Is that a concern, especially given his past? Just saying it is dumb doesn't make it so.

Yes, the thread has been done before, a legitimate complaint. There, some people gave similarly irrelevant responses, but a few displayed signs of mentation:

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

While I am not particularly worried, it's a legit thing to watch.
Maybe you guys should lighten up with the ragging on the op.
There are FAR worse threads around here.
Gee Whiz.

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

We all need to stop making DUMB threads...this is just anothersee me I am dum thread that has been filling up the board the past weeks...Look at cassel..Look at Moss...Brady is out..the sky is falling...seriously...yes, Moss had to be frustrated..but you can't throw him the ball when he is smothered..I THINK he knows that..Look another player is picking his nose..let's start a thread!!!! Good grief!!!

I agree here. You saw this as well yesterday in the Monday night game that as soon as the Eagles started rolling coverage towards T.Owens the Cowboys stopped strowing there. Why create a big play for the other team by lobbing one up for them to pick off?? As for Owens, after his 72 yd TD, he had 2 catches for 14 yds. That's what happens when you double to take a player out of the game, but difference makers like Moss, because of all the attention they require, open things up for other players when that happens. The Jets coverage opened things up for Welker who had 7 catches and the Eagles coverage and blitzes opened things up for Whitten and he also had 7 catches.

We don't have to worry about Moss, he is a leader, check out this article: Randy Moss takes a lead role - BostonHerald.com

Here is some of that artcile:
What fans might not have seen on TV during the 19-10 win over the Jets are a few observations that serve to illustrate the point. For starters, Moss was one of the first on the field before pregame warmups. He was out playing catch with Vince Wilfork [stats]. That might not seem like much, but he doesn’t usually make an appearance until the entire team comes out. But he was there, in the sweltering heat, tossing a ball around.

During the game, when the offense wasn’t on the field, Moss was on the bench, sitting to Cassel’s left - all game long. He was right beside the young quarterback in the support seat.

And when a pivotal moment arose for the defense, the two got up together, inched closer to the sideline and cheer their teammates.

Kevin Faulk [stats], who is among Moss’ closest friends, isn’t surprised at how the wide receiver, who was voted one of the offensive captains along with Brady and Matt Light [stats], has handled the injured quarterback’s absence to this point.

Faulk believes the wide receiver has taken his role as captain to heart and doesn’t want to let his teammates down, especially now. Brady’s injury just heightened Moss’ sense of leadership and the need for him to deliver for his teammates.

But that doesn’t mean just catching passes and scoring touchdowns.

“Once you get voted captain by your teammates, it makes you understand how your teammates feel about you, and you tend to feel like you have to step up sometimes as a person,” Faulk said yesterday. “You might be quiet, but in that role, you might have to cheer more, say more. Randy’s just a great guy, and you couldn’t ask anything more from him.”

Offensively, Moss wasn’t the focal point against the Jets. He caught two passes for 22 yards. Cassel didn’t look his way very often, as the Jets took the deep ball away by rolling a safety over the top for most of the game. By and large, Moss was double-teamed, which was a contrast to last season when Brady and Moss torched the Jets secondary with long balls.

After the game, Moss spoke of the team win. He spoke in Patriots [team stats] terms.

“That’s how this team is really designed. They really emphasize that this organization is really a team. That’s how they build it,” Moss said. “If one guy goes down, we rely on someone else to step up and make it happen. Today was definitely a team victory.”

Faulk says it’s simple. Moss gets it. He grasps the meaning of being a Patriot, and has embraced all that comes with it.

No need to worry about Moss, he is not a self-centered player like Owens. He wants to win more than he cares about his personal stats.

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

If we want to use Moss correctly, Cassel needs to learn how to throw some TD passes. So far, he didn't do it because he wanted to play safe.

He needs to improve his passing skill if we want to use Moss and Welker like we did last year.

Dude, I doubt that choice was made very often By Cassel. The voices in his head probably had more to do with that.

Do you imagine Brett wanted to hammer a runner from the three that many times? And his TD was a pick play(imo).

I think Mattress knows how to throw a pass. The question is WHEN to throw a pass.

It's true that Moss was used. After the deep, torching bomb and TD against the Chiefs, Mangini decided to keep Moss covered. That often gobbled up two defenders and kept our short game lively.

The TD's are coming, just be patient.

That is a great article thanks for the link. It addresses the point directly.

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

Moss knows that he can't get his stat with Cassel and what he hopes for is a SB ring.

He can wait for the stat when TB is back.

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

I'm sure he will see lots of balls next week against the Fish.

While it seems like a logical conclusion, I'm not so sure. You know Belichick. He'll only use the offense required to win the game and not showcase the playbook. They'll be plenty of short stuff, a few deep ones and a lot of runs.

Correct. It is dumb whether anyone says so or not. They simply aren't related.

What we are having is a ton of threads started by people who need something to worry about, and when their doom and gloom predictions don't come true, they make stuff up.

Who said Moss was unhappy? You say he looked unhappy. I say he looked bored, same as Cassel. Yeah, two clips were shown on TV, one with Moss looking bored and one with Cassel yawning.

So friggin what? you keep a camera on a guy for three hours and use only the few seconds that supports what image you want to show.

What is dumb is not listening to Moss himself. "Yeah, he sounded fine, and he said last year he understood about being double teamed and used as a decoy, but what if he is lying? What is he is disgruntled? Sure, he could still play even disgruntled and play very well, but what if he doesn't? What if he gets mad at not getting the ball more and stops trying as a means to get the ball more?"

and on and on and on and on

People are going to look for reasons that things aren't going to be okay, and they are going to post them here. Look for lots more dumb threads. THe next one will be, "Is BB mad at Maroney? Was Eckel signed as a warning to Maroney?"

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss !

Classic. It just... might... work...

Re: We all need to keep a close eye on Moss! [test]

He's signed for a few years ... if he's not happy we'll get a few draft picks for him ... whatever Belichick won't put up with his crap if he starts pouting.

My impression on Moss during the Chiefs game was that he seemed to be moving/running somewhat stiffly. When it was reported on the following Monday that he'd hurt his back, it made clear what I'd been seeing. IMO Randy played a fabulous decoy against the Jests, with a few catches thrown in and he's probably sitting on the sidelines in some pain, nothing more.

The '07 season proved to me that Randy is truly a good team player and his being elected a captain by his teammates says it all.

One of the many things our WR's loved about TB was his ability to throw to his receivers and limit their exposure, or make them vulnerable to defenders. I'd just a soon let MC get more game time and keep to the dink and dunk more, until his timing improves with his deep threats.

Yeah, this was almost as refreshing as a rehash of the significance of Randy Moss not playing in the 2007 preseason.
