We all need to keep a close eye on Moss. Cassel only looked Moss's way three times on Sunday. Two catches for 22 yards and the underthrown long ball that would have been an easy touchdown. Early in the game, Moss was high-fiving his QB and being good teammate Randy. For a big part of the second half, Moss sat alone at the end of the bench and his body language changed dramatically. He seemed a lot less interested in the game when he realized Cassel wasn't going to find him downfield.

To be fair, Moss had only glowing things to say about Cassel after the game. Moss is such an emotional player, the Pats coaching staff may have to try a little harder to keep him mentally involved, if they continue to play so conservatively on offense.

I think his frustration is reasonable, but he must be aware of the gameplan. They need to keep trying to find each other and between a technically easy game Sunday and week off of games I think they'll either make or break that connection. Don't look for it to develop after week eight, I don't think we can wait that long to rescue Emo-Randy.

They did a good job of shutting him down, you can pull the Podcast from WEEI and listen to Bill himself talk about how they basically took Randy out of the game.

He'll be fine, however we need to throw to him 3-4 times a game on a deep/20+ yard route - Just to keep the rest of the league aware of the threat that he brings to each game. Of course, that's all IMHO.

I think it was a frustrating day for him as far as receiving numbers go, but he had those with Brady last year too (AFC Divisional game and AFCC).

He knows Cassel CAN get him the ball, he did it in game one. I expect Moss to have a big day against the Miami secondary, because even when they've got you covered they really don't do anything to stop you. If he has another 2 catch, 20 yard day... then I might start to get concerned.

We all need to stop making DUMB threads...this is just anothersee me I am dum thread that has been filling up the board the past weeks...Look at cassel..Look at Moss...Brady is out..the sky is falling...seriously...yes, Moss had to be frustrated..but you can't throw him the ball when he is smothered..I THINK he knows that..Look another player is picking his nose..let's start a thread!!!! I don't think this is true. My understanding is that Moss was doubled most of the game. Just because Cassel didn't throw to him doesn't mean he didn't look Moss's way.

The beauty of Moss/Welker is that if the coverage rolls deep you have the under, and if the coverage plays close you have the deep routes.

Brady has the experience and abiity to throw into double coverage. Cassel is not there yet. But remember, Brady wasn't there in early 2001, either. Give it more than one game in a hostile environment where audibles are near impossible.

It is also nuts to think we will have the same game plan for all teams every week.

When Moss first came here, here was asked about being a decoy, and said that was part of his job.

I think his appearance is very understandable. He misses Brady. They had a rappport and they were friends. Their lockers were side by side. It would be astounding if he were not sad and bummed. That doesn't mean he will rond off routes, quit on plays etc.

As Cassel gains experience, the game plan will change. Moss is no dummy. He knows that.

But everyone needs to know that the 2007 Patriots no longer exist. For one year, we were the Colts, piling up yards and records and forgetting that defense wins championships. Don't look for a repeat of the kind of games we saw last year. We're back to the Kardiac Kids.

FOXBOROUGH – Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his standard day-after-game press conference (11:45 a.m.) at Gillette Stadium and here were a few of the notable nuggets:


1) Jets’ defensive approach against Randy Moss. Belichick made the point that the Jets played a lot of deep-field coverage, and rolled a safety over the top of Moss for most of the game. That essentially meant he was double-covered. It seemed as if the Jets’ focus on taking away Moss and the long ball opened up opportunities for the shorter passing game.

I do believe this is the third thread about Moss' feelings so far this week. I wonder how many will be written before the week is over.

Moss does not deserve this kind of talk at this point. He showed a lot of class last year and so far this year. Even before he got to the Pats his issue was not really in getting him the ball but much more about calling plays that could help his team win. I remember when he left a game earley while on the Raiders his complaint was that the play calling showed the coaches gave up on the game not about being under used.

Moss has shown himself to be a very intelligent player that understands the Pats' Offense.

I'm new enough to NFL fandom that I don't totally know the story about him and the Raiders. Anyone got the goods?
The rumour was just that he wasn't a team player when he wasn't the star. Would love to hear a different/accurate spin.

I hope Randy doesn't blow snot on the sidelines like Zach Thomas did. The media would go nuts. Now, if Randy wants to put his playbook on his lap and take a picture of it...and if he just happens to be naked...I will certainly be all eyes Cooley is clearly a grower....I think Randy may be more of a shower:singing:

I don't think there is cause to worry. Moss's numbers dropped off in the second half of the season last year, and the media started to say he was tired or the opposition had figured him out. I do think the teams underestimated him early, so in second or later season games they did not even consider throwing less than double coverage on him. Welker's increasing numbers indicate he benefited from that scheme.

He did not act like a malcontent in those later games, and I suspect he is being genuine when he takes pride in team victories. At some level he may be somewhat bummed that his stats may not be historic this year, but after his Oakland experience an intelligent individual, and he is acknowledged by Belichick to be such an individual, is less concerned with stats than he is with his legacy as a player. I believe electing him a team captain for the Patriots will go a long way in keeping him focused on the team.

Unfortunately, the "wait until Randy quits" story line is far tastier for the media than my explanation, as most predicted last year he would destroy this team from the inside and had to eat crow when he became a team player, so the picture of him on the sidelines without an ear-to-ear grin cannot mean he is simply resting or content with a win. It has to imply he is about to go TO on the team and demand more receptions or a trade. I read some comment in one of the many stories from this weekend that he walked a route (which Cris Carter, in one of his last memorable, useful statements stated every receiver does and you cannot go full throttle on every play so at times it is a calculated way of conserving energy), pointing in the direction that he is not sufficiently involved. I believe he'll be fine as the offense evolves over the course of the season and moves away from predominantly short passing.

It was more than him not being the star. The team was losing bad. And the rest of the team had given up.

Two out of three are not occurring with the NEP.

With the Raiders the entire organization was such a mess I'm not sure it's an accurate indicator of who Randy is.

Randy seems like a really smart guy to me. If he's frustrated, I'm sure it stems from his competitive nature. But I'm getting really tired of everyone treating him like some ticking time bomb that will surely blow up if things aren't 100% perfect at all times. If BB felt that way, and he knows him better than we do, he would not have signed him.
