or maybe the teams response to him, his team often looked confused, did not use the clock all that well and lots of stupid penalties.. a classic was when BB switched from the o team to the Punt team.. did not work well for Pats, but the Jets looked like they were pop warner.. they should have been prepared for this...

Would think with all the hoopla about Favre, the whole team would have responded differently.. I know our D played extremely well.. but the Jets did not look or act like a front line team..

It's only a matter of time before Favre complains about coaching-jmho. Granted he's probably still learning the offense (which speaks volumes about BB's decision to go with Cassel) but their playcalling seemed sort of suspect too. Example- instead of letting Favre sling one into the EZ they run it up the gut 3 times or so, to no avail. Favre might be overrated but he's not exactly chopped liver either, though the pats sure made him look that way

He's still developing in their system but Manjokus should give him a little more slack. I mean-isn't that why they got him in the first place?

Either way, it sure seems odd that they've bulked up their trenches and signed a future HOF QB, yet somehow they not only managed to lose but they looked really B-A-D when they did. Disclaimer-I'm not complaining at all obviously, but it's interesting. Mangenius...not. :singing:

Let's face it. Mangini wasn't exactly impressive in his only year as a DC with the Pats. He got the Jets jobs based solely on hype and the fact he comes from the Belichick tree. Woody Johnson in his desperate attempt to turn the Jets into the Meadowlands version of the Patriots thought he was getting Belichick Jr. What he got was Herm Edwards Jr.

Even when they went 10-6 in 2006, Mangini coached not to lose, not to win. You cannot win consistently in the NFL when you play not to lose.

Mangini has been placed or placed himself between the proverbial rock and a hard place. He's a micro-manager brought in to install discipline and system to build off of like the one the guy who hired him is eternally jealous of. Only that guy has no patience, and on some level (ego) neither does Mangini (much like Saban who could not withstand the heat of losing through a re-build). So they start to take the end around approach bringing in expensive aging FA talent to win now...

The QB they opted for has no use and little affinity for systems. If they win Brett's way while it will chap Mangini he will swallow hard and live with the improvisations. When they lose he and his QB will butt heads as one points fingers publicly or privately at the other. Brett doesn't know the system, nor does he really want to. There were some faces going on yesterday as calls came in... Last week he reportedly called some plays of his own with complex terminology like lets just run that (insert an earlier play) again...

Against below average (talent) or undisciplined defenses they will win some games on Brett's sandlot heroics. Against above average (talent) defenses and those who maintain discipline, they will lose.

And before you know it it will be 2009...and then what?

That was a VERY baffling move. Has Washington had assignments like that in the past? Now don't get me wrong, that play was very entertaining, but it was a very baffling coaching decision, IMO.

He's called upon to block, like any back. But, in that situation, the one thing you can't afford is a sack. Incomplete pass - fine. I may have even taken a grounding penalty before THAT sack. In terms of qb sacks, that might just be one of the worst I've ever seen. Twenty yards, and Thomas actually sacked two guys at once. Clock runs off time. Jets get pushed back and surrender field position to close out the game. Five minutes left and one play essentially closed the door. Dumb.

Mangini's biggest mistake was trying to stuff it down the Patriots throats on the goal line eralier in the game to prove a point. How'd that work out for you Eric?

Not sure how Farve didn't break free on AD 'monster sack'. As pointed out in an earlier post.... if Eli's jersey was as strong as Lord Farve's the Pats would be defending champions (again).

Favre is overrated at least at this point of his career. You listen to a lot of the talking heads on TV and they will try to convince you that Favre at 38 can walk on water and turn water into wine. People talk about the guy like he was in his prime.

I can't blame the Jets fans from being excited when you have the media telling you every day that your team is the hot upshots that are the darkhorse candidates for the Super Bowl. You have Marshall Faulk predicting the Jets win the division even before Brady went down. Most of the media had them going to the playoffs and would have had them winning the division if they weren't in the same division as the Patriots.

You would have thought that the media would have learned from all those Redskins teams that tried to buy a championship team, but they still fall into that trap every year.

In his 8th or 9th year when Detnmer was the backup he turned to him in TC and asked "Ok so what is Nickle defense anyway?" That just about sums it up right there. The man is a moron when it comes to Football IQ
