Well, according to Reiss, the Patriots had in Old Friend Reche Caldwell for a visit.

Also, old friend, Randall Gay, is back to his old habits of playing one game and then being out.

David Patten had a great game last week for the Saints.

Gaffney is hurting and Ventrone is our #5 QB. I'd be talking to WR also.

So I guess Caldwell didn't catch on in Washington?

I'm shocked that Caldwell is just sitting at home. He's no star, for sure, but he had a competent season for us.

Sure, but Gaffney is better and he was sitting in his living room.
We sure could use Branch or Givens or Patten...

That shocked me too. Teams like the Titans and Browns could surely use Caldwell. The Browns have Edwards and nothing today. Stallworth is out, Jeruvicious is out (probably forever). Caldwell would upgrade then at every WR spot right now except #1 and would be their best #3 WR all season.

The fact that you're only competent when a guy named Tom Brady is the guy throwing to you as a #1 target is very telling.

I think the "#1 target" bit is precisely the problem. That's not the easy/ideal situation you suggest -- it's just the opposite, a demand to create offense with no other receiving threats around you. Put the same guy in a 3-WR set with Moss & Welker and his burden's a lot lighter.

Truth. During 's tenure it was pretty much him and Gaff. Gaff was better but he's gotten at least 75% better since he's a part of the whole instead of being part of the core.

What's going on with Troy? I'm sure it's been posted somewhere in the 965 threads since last Sunday but...

I always find it interesting to follow our old Pats once they've left. Sounds like Patten's about the only one healthy and doing well. I'm glad for him-I happened to rewatch some old 3GTGs...fond memories of him for sure.

I agree, he knows the sytem, he's a good solidier and did us well aside from one infamous drop that we all remember, but I remember the solid season he had for us. Sometimes guys just perform better in systems more tailored to their strengths and I think Gaffney and Caldwell are two of those guys.

I've always like Reche.
However, how can we have a discussion about adding WR's when there is a young man who (sort of) knows our system and is brimming with potential? Come on Chad...earn a roster spot.

Ol' Dropsey Cadwell?? Really
have him in but cut CJ Jones, what the hell am I missing??????:disagreement:
Love Troy Brown but come on guys he is 40 ok?
Cadwell is gone for a reason
Chad Jackson just could not remain in the play
CJ has been on our practice squad and knows the playbook

Reche is gone because he was unable to perform as the #1 receiver. We are now comparing Jones with Caldwell. I guess we all have our binkies. IMHO, Caldwell would be a fine 3rd receiver with Moss and Wekler on the field, and a fine #3/#4 if you add Gaffney.

Old friend Garrett Mills lead the Vikings in receiving last Monday night, and just made a great block on Dwight Freeney to open up the edge for a big Peterson run.

I completely agree. Now that CJ Jones has been finally discarded, the FO should throw out Aiken too and bring back Bug Eyes as a legitimate, professional #4 WR. KW & Bubba can remain as the STers/wildcard WRs. I would also keep Tim Dwight's and Troy Brown's (and - dare I say it? - CJack's) #s on speed-dial.

And speaking of players whom the FO should not have exposed to waivers, how did Justin Rogers do last week?

I'm a bit surprised that with all the injuries at WR in Seattle that neither Caldwell or Jackson found a job there. Same goes, but to a lesser extent, with the WR situation in Philadelphia and Oakland.

The fact that Caldwell was competent while he was healthy in San Diego is telling as well. Oh.. but don't forget that fact.

Its amazing that people like you ignore that he only had 2 drops all season. But keep on being stupid about it.

Caldwell was gone because he didn't have the versatility to be on special teams.

They cut CJ Jones because they needed a 3rd QB on the roster. Not to mention that Jones was extraneous.
