No mention of the fact that Mangina tries to get too cute going for 2 and nearly outcoaches himself to a loss.

Let's hope he tries some other "think too much" wannabe genius stunt Sunday.

Did you watch the game? Nugent was injured badly enough that they had Kellen Clemens on the sideline practicing kicks. They went for it on a long 4th down which resulted in the TD and then went for it on two because they had no one on the roster who could kick a FG after Nugent went down.

Oh crap, my bad...I forgot the place kicker was down.

Let this turd sink.

OK, let's rip him for not having a contingency backup place kicker.

Help...moderator...how do you delete a thread????

My ass just outran my brain.

Jets signed FA Jay Feely he will be doing the kicking Sunday for the Jets.

MY guess is that Mangini won't be going for any 50 yard field goals, lol.

I haven't heard the terms of his contract, but I am guessing a 1 year deal.

Feely was 23 of 25 with the fish last year, not bad, plus he use to play for the Gints so he knows Giants stadium.

The thing is that if the Jets didn't go for it on that fourth down, the game would have most likely gone into overtime. The game ended on an INT because Pennington had to throw into coverage the endzone on 3rd and 10 on the Jets' 18 with 10 seconds left because the Dolphins were down by 6. If the Jets kicked the field goal on that fourth down where they scored a TD (which they would have), the Dolphins would have only been down by three. The Dolphins would have settled on a field goal and going into overtime in that situation especially with a young team.

Granted if that scenario played out like it did, no one would be questioning Mangini about going for it on fourth down or a two point conversion.

Its a tough scenario b/c I could also say that Nugent would have hit a chip shot FG on the FG in which he injures himself and I could say the fins dont start every possession after we score on their own 40 giving them a huge advantage in the field position game. IMO the TD just gives us what we should have had. We missed a chip shot FG when our kicker got hurt ( 3 pts) and we would have taken the points on 4th and 14 (3 pts). Theres your six we got on the TD and failed 2 pt conversion

I didn't see the play Nugent blew and got hurt on so I cannot say whether he would have made it or not, but it was a 32 yarder which although usually are easy FGs, it isn't automatic. And was he injured because a defender got in and made a play on the ball or just a freak injury.

Besides, I do know he would have had to rekick anyway from ten yards out because of offensive holding that was declined.

It was a freak injury, no one even touched him. I know my previous post was a huge hypothetical but I just wanted to think that the Favre hail mary was good karma paid in return:D

BTW, your video signiture shows even more good karma. I know it was a great play between Favre and Cotchery, but jeepers if that defender didn't tackle Cotchery 10 yards into the end zone. I better defender would have known to push the guy out of bounds. Not that the Jets couldn't have scored anyway, but it would have been at least tougher.

I'm still trying to figure out why people are denigrating Favre for making that throw. It was 4th down and the R-A-T-S didn't have a kicker, so they went for it and Favre chucked it up hoping his players were better on that play than the Dolphin players. Not surprisingly, given how bad Miami's secondary has been of late, the play went in favor of the R-A-T-S. Brady would probably have done the same thing.

Take out the R-A-T-S comments and I would confuse you with a Jets fan b/c this is such a basic concept that people have knocked Favre on. Unbias yet keeps true to his patriots roots, nice post;)

I don't know, he did throw into triple coverage. There were at least two defenders who if they were better could have made a play on the ball. In fact, Yerimiah Bell was in the best position to catch the ball out of anyone and for some reason he misjudged the pass completely and ran way out of position while the receiver moved into his position. I think against a good secondary, that was a very risky throw and probably intercepted as long as the defender holds onto the ball.

but whats the big deal if they pick it off? He has to at least give his team a chance in that scenario.

It was 4th and 13 from the 22 yard line. The R-A-T-S had no kicker, so they couldn't go for the 32 yard field goal. An interception in the endzone gives the Dolphins the ball at the 20 yard line. An incompletion gives the Dolphins the ball at the 22 yard line.

Really, there wasn't much downside to Favre's throw.

The one thing that Mangini did do which was dumb, was run on 3rd and 7 at the end of the game. Maybe he was just scared of Favre, but you have a chance to end the game with a first down, why give Miami the ball back? I forget the exact circumstances but there was maybe 1:50 left.
