Chiefs/Jets

They used him primarily as a rush end on passing downs and he even saw some action on neutral downs. He collapsed the pocket a couple of times and almost registered 2 sacks....

Were they playing horseshoes or tossing hand grenades?

I think the OP has a point. The Jets are all the sudden a 4-12 going worst to first and the chiefs are the same crappy team they were last year. Kind of double standard after just one week. That being said the Jets seem to have done more in the off season wether that translates to more wins is still yet to be seen. But rather than fixating on the point that he tried to argue that the chiefs may be better than the Jets lets just fixate on the point that they were 4-12 last year and even if they are better than the chiefs that doesn't mean that they are a playoff team or even a playoff contending team.

The Jets are not that good of a team. Their De is soft, Their O-line has a 2 has beens one never will be and one good linemen, their run game isnt very good and they have the all time leading QB in INTs at the helm. No excuse to lose to this team this week.

OK, thanks for the info. I admittedly soured on him pre-draft, even before it became clear he wasn't going to NE, so I'm curious to see if and how he develops.

Pressure with out a sack can be just as disruptive. Pollard was close to a sack last week and look where that left us.

Hand Grenades:p...Technically he should have .5 a sack b/c he got to the QB as ellis wrapped up Pennington, however they gave the sack to ellis.

Yes, but the line of discussion at that point was about the stat line and the 0's across it.

who cares about a stat line...you playing fantasy football or watching the real thing. big Sey doesn't care about the stat line.

Ok, you go with that. I'll go with teasing a Jets fan who was talking about how Gholston "almost" had 2 sacks, when he had zero.

That doesnt make sense. you can finish a game with 0 sacks and almost have 2:confused:

Apparently it's possible if you're a Jet.....:)

Ah, yes, the old "shoulda, coulda, woulda" stat-line of the week: ALMOST 2 sacks.

Whats wrong with saying he almost had two sacks and he had numerous QB pressures? He had 0's across the stat line but he definitely had an impact on the game

Nothing's wrong with saying it.

No problem at all. The Pat's basically won the Superbowl. Same diff.

WOW. I watched this replayed, and 'collapsing the pocket' is about as inaccurate description as could possibly be made. He 'got near' the qB a couple of times.
Collapsing the pocket means you destroy your man (typically up the middle) and make the QB vacate where the pocket was supposed to be.
I know it makes it sound better than he got near the QB a few times after it was too late, but its just a false statement.
B or B-??????????????????? The 6th pick in the draft? He cannot even start and gets on the field in a few pass rushing situations, you are happy that he 'even saw some action on neutral downs', his stat line was 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 and you give him a B or B-???????????
In April when you drafted him #6 you would have said not even starting not making a tackle or assist, and being a sub rusher who cant get a sack would be an F-.

Understand you are paying this guy how many millions, and you think that not starting, getting no tackles or assists and no sacks is a B or B-. If he ends the season with 0-0-0-0-0-0-0 you are going to call that a B or B-? Because thats what playing like the B or B- you gave him would add up to over a full season.

When we drafted him we knew he would not be a starter from day one and that he was a raw project with a huge upside. Now we can take out rime instead of throwing him out there b/c we have Pace and B. Thomas played well. He is learning a new position, he wont be ready to start day one. And he was there on an Ellis sack in the first quarter i believe.

This conversation makes me nearly exuberant about Mayo. That said, I understand Gholston is in transition... to the richest professional football player to post no stats.

Nice job at revising history by saying the #6 pick was a raw project you expected nothing from.
Newsflash, you expected a dominant player the day you drafted him, and the idea that he is not NFL ready came up after he proved it.

Belichick had what felt like either a subtle or unintentional jab at Gholston in his presser today, when referring to the #6th pick overall he said: "Gholston, he doesn’t play that much on defense but he plays on third down. "

It's a statement of a fact - but in contrast to our own rookie linebacker, sort of feels like a slight to me. Mayo, earning a fraction of what Gholston does, played in every snap on Sunday. :D

Add to that, Gholston has no value on ST, I really think the Jets made the wrong move, as of now. Obviously, things can change dramatically and Gholston may end up being a beast, but for now, I feel like Mayo is the smarter pick.
