This infatuation with Favre is so Jets. Their only championship came 40 years ago this coming January—the year Favre was born! Over that time, the Yankees, Mets, and Giants have won 11 championships. Every other team in the Jets' own division—the Patriots, the Dolphins, even the Bills—have had some kind of dynasty. The Jets are the only team in their division that has never really had an "era," a period of dominance even in their own conference.

Like the plane in that Twilight Zone episode, the Jets seem stuck in an eternal holding pattern, always on the verge of rebuilding but never quite getting there. To paraphrase George Clemenceau on Brazil, the Jets are the team of the future—and always will be.

If the Jets don't win something this year, next September they'll be faced with a 40-year-old Favre pulling down $13 million of precious salary-cap money. Where will the Jets' rebuilding plans be then? They've mortgaged their future on a quarterback in his John McCain years who combines the intellect of Li'l Abner with the ego of Matthew McConaughey.

But what are they going to do? Cut him?"

That was a good read and spot on also. Do the Jets Really think they can win the SB? They're not THAT good in the first place,they aren't a SB caliber team. So all this money that was thrown out there was a waste. Unless Maybe winning the division is the goal,and even thats a stretch.

It's not about the future of the franchise, it's about management wanting to fill seats and sell jerseys (i.e. - increase revenues) and the coaching staff trying to save their jobs...THIS YEAR.

This is exactly why I loved the trade so much in the first place. The Jets are stunting their long term growth by bringing in Farve for 2 years. Obviously, Clemons is not the answer for them or they would not have brought in Farve and once Farve is done, they will be forced to look for a new QB in the draft (because how many franchise QB's come on the free agent market? Drew Brees is the exceotion rather than the rule) ) and that will take sevral years to develop with no guarentee that the QB they select will ever pan out.
And in making this trade, the Rats have sealed Mangidiots fate. He cannot survive this long term, not in a market like New York. He will be gone in two years max and just as likely fired at the end of this year after a 7-9 season.
Now if we can only convince Dave Wannstadt to come back to coach the Dolphins!!

All jokes aside Dave was the best coach the Dolphins had in recent memory. With him and Fiedler they always seemed to be a 10-11 win team if my memory serves me correctly.

Yes, we sealed Mangidiots fate by making a drastic upgrade at qb. I doubt any realistic Jets fan expects with or without Farve for the Jets to win the superbowl this year. The bottom line is that the Jets have done a very good job rebuilding by drafting well (Revis, Harris, Mangold, Brick, Smith, Leon, Stuckey, Lowery, Keller, Gholston), coaching up players from the previous regime (Rhodes, Cotchery, Moore, Barton, Baker, Thomas) and free agents/trades to fill holes on the lines (Faneca, Jenkins, Pace and Woody).

Farve gives the Jets a much better chance to be good this year and next then Pennington or Clemens. I doubt they will drafting any quaterbacks next year. Brett Ratliff is being groomed to be the next quaterback.

Are the jets as good as the Pats? Not at all. Are the Jets drastically improved in 3 off seasons? yes.

Woody needs to sell PSLs before the new stadium opens next year. Mangini and Tannenbaum need to make the playoffs this year in order to keep their jobs. They can pay lip service about championships, but that's what it's all about. Another losing season would be disastrous for ownership and management. Yup, this is why Belichick advised his young protogee to thank them for their interest and wait for a better shot to be a HC. The JETS can not stay a course. The need to win the battle for the back page of the post is just too alluring.

They now have no plan for the future, just an attention grabbing hope for the present. I heard or read somewhere this week that the huddle was a hoot in last week's game. Brett wasn't calling the same plays the coaches were relaying in, he was running his offense... That last TD was classic. Tie game with almost 7 minutes to go in the first half and Favre's rationale for making that throw was why not just put it up there... But what do you do when it ultimately won the game? Quit wasting time game planning? Welcome to Mike McCarthy's world, Eric. If your team wins now it's all credit to Brett. If they lose your just another chump in a long list of JETS HC's who rolled the dice to win now and ended up creating a bigger mess for the next poor dope who takes his shot to dig out from under.

If Mangini didn't have an ulcer after last season, he certainly will after this one... And then we'll have the drama of the off season as Favre decides whether or not he still wants to play for a lame duck or new HC...

Not sure whose "grooming" Ratliff... But good luck to him running Brett's offense in 2010...or whichever one the new OC and the new HC who didn't draft him installs.

Clemens isn't the answer, or isn't ready, so what's the harm in bringing in a better QB? Much of the New England fan base was calling for the same thing to happen here, albeit for the backup QB position, in case Brady got hurt.

Right - if the Jets didn't win this year while the Pats where in the midst of another monster year, there might be a chance MangIdiot would keep his job.

Now, there's no excuse. If MangIdiot can't win now, he'll never win. I don't think he needs to win the Super Bowl, but if he fails to make the playoffs, he's gone - and that's the end of his head coaching career, with it being doubtful that any organization will invite him in to snitch on them even in a coordinator or assistant role.

On paper. And on paper we're... well frankly, no-one knows WHERE we are. Brady-less. But you can't subtract him from the equation and call the remainder what we are. We're plugging something of an unknown into his spot. We may not be able to do this math until we take the field with the colts.

So they're improved on paper. I think it's a much smaller improvement than they think. Almost getting edged out by the Dolphins... bad news.

You beat me to it. They barely beat the worst team i football last season WITH ALL THEIR STARTERS. He'd better take the wait and see approach. I only see the Jets being 4-5 games better then they were last year. As a Jets fan that's "drastic" you gotta remember that, LMAO!

They were a horrible team last year due to the fact that they had no left guard, right tackle or nose tackle. If you can't see that they upgraded this team in 3 offseasons from what they were then your blind.
