In week 1, the bears beat the colts, the steelers beat the texans, ravens beat the bengals, the patriots beat the chiefs. The chiefs and texans might not be power house offense but the colts and the bengals sure can be. If you look at the stats, these winning QBs only got about 150 yards total, but still won, so their defense won games.

So if the patriots defense holds up well this season, then, a well prepared no experienced matt cassel can take the patriots into the playoffs.

And once you're in the playoffs who knows what can happen?
Now this is just week one, but if this trend keeps up through out the season, I like our chances of going to the playoffs.

That can be said for every team in the league, hence the 2007 NY Giants. You must drink A LOT of coffee!

The defenses of those 4 teams didn't win the game. The teams won the game. Maybe they didn't win with their passing game, but the offense did its part in all 4 cases.

All 4 of their offenses put up over 300 yard, converted over 53% of its thrid downs, 3 of the 4 teams were in the top 5 in running yards, all 4 averaged over 4.5 yards per rush, none of the 4 were negative in the turnover battle, only the Pats didn't win time of possession.

Offensive efficiency gets ignored because it isn't flashy but it is required for defensive oriented teams to win in the NFL.

I won't say that the Patriots D won the game for the Pats. But they did keep the Pats from losing. Now you are probably sitting there scratching your head saying "What's he talking about". Well, the way I see it is that, if the defense had palyed as perfectly as people would like to think, the score in the 4th quarter wouldn't have been 17-14 with the Chiefs driving. The score would have been 17-0 and it wouldn't have mattered.

The defense played a very good game, but had Deltha O'Neal not made the play he did or had Bowe caught the ball thrown to him, we all would be blaming the defense for the loss.

A touchdown for the Chiefs would only have tied the game. It was 17-10, not 17-14.

anytime your Dfense holds the opponent to only 10 points, then usually the game was won by defense.

Two offensive players fumbled the ball away. Otherwise the game would not have been very close.

Not if the opposing team's defense held you to less than 10....then the offense lost the game......
