I'd have to think there would be some pretty serious competition out there for Garcia.
Gruden was horrible during the Brett Favre saga, and while you can say that Garcia should have just taken it like a man and not gotten bothered by the whole thing, I'd be willing to overlook that. Is Garcia a bit of a prima donna? Yes. Is there reason to be suspicious of a guy with his numbers who has bounced around like he has? Yes.
But there is not, and is not likely to be, a better option out there now or at any time in the rest of the year. We're talking about consistent career 90 rating passer who has only once had a receiving corps anything like he would have in New England (and who, by the way, had a career year that year).
He has 149 career TDs v. 77 INTs. He's a very solid third down QB. He went 13 TDs against 4 INTs last year for a playoff team throwing to Hilliard and Galloway. He had a below average game in the playoffs last year against the Giants, but so did the guy we just put on the IR -- that defensive line was flying that game.
This is the no brainer of all no brainers. Do I want a fairy tale ending where Matt Cassel pulls a 2001 Tom Brady? Of course. It would likely be the most memorable sports rooting event of the last 20 years or more. But you can't let the dream for the perfect be the enemy of the good. No brainer.
