I would bet anything that Gutierrez will be removed from the PS and onto the roster as a 3rd QB before the upcoming game against the Jets

Regardless of when he is moved back onto the roster which he will be if not this week then next,Would you move Gutierrez back into the #2 over O'Connell that he held the edge over before he was cut or does he drop to the 3rd emergency QB and O'Connell remains as Cassel's #2 backup like it is now?

Personally I think next year Cassel is gone and Gutierrez will likely be gone as well once TB comes back so I think O'Connell should be the guy to come in if Cassel gets injured since it is apparent that if he shows productivity he will be groomed to eventually be TBs successor in a few years.

Overall O'Connell had more bright moments that Gutz in preseason so it would not be crazy to think the rookie gets the edge here.

I see Gutierrwz as the likely backup, simply because of his knowledge of the playbook. We don't need a qb who makes plays, we need a qb who knows plays. Our wr's will get separation, we just need a qb who will get them the ball.

I see kevin as an eventual starting qb somewhere, i also see him as more of a play maker than both matt and matt, but he was never meant to start this year. I think it is time to look for conservative qb play and i think staying away from bad plays. Simple put, the matts are more prepared right now, but nothing is a given and if you are good enough you are ready. You can't rule anything out.

Bill will also do what he can to win now, because of our aging roster, we have to play the best option at qb now and not who is going to be on the roster next season.

I know they were higher draft picks and more touted than Kevin but after seeing Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco tear up thier opponents last sunday who knows if the class of 2008 will rival the QB class of 1983 - and O'Connell could be just as good as those 2 if given a shot-even if its in garbage time

I think kevin is going to be a good qb like i said, but i think bb won't play him much this year. If he had too than i think he would do fine, but i don't think bill will.

One of these guys has to run the scout team and at this time that will most likely be Gutierrez.

Neither Gutierrez or O'connell has ever taken a snap against NFL starters in regular season game time scheme driven action. If something happened to Cassel and I had to send one of them to slaughter, Gootz is one I risk...

This season isn't about developing future backups or getting 3rd round draft picks killed, it's about trying to win games. Some teams have little choice in the matter, but in that case at least they spent TC and the pre season preparing those draft picks to start. We had options so we didn't. And don't be surprised if in a few weeks when the leagues DC's have a book on them the rookie starters don't start looking like road kill...

Well Mo a lot of us are hoping and praying that Cassell is a fast learner.

Cassel needs to learn fast and play well because if he doesn't he won't have to worry about entering FA next year,he will be looking for other employment

Its playoffs or bust for Cassel - I think Super Bowl is asking way too much for him so even making the playoffs would get him consideration for some team next year.

You've been predicting he'd be looking for employment since pre season. Have you been right about predicting or analyzing anything this off season?

Its not the offseason,Mo - We actually played a game last week, its the regular season now

Are you O.K. or did you forget last week's game?

And your boy better be good as you think he will because the flood gates won't hold the water in Patriots Nation if he screws up and the team starts losing so hope that Cassel keeps that water under control

If he does play well and by week 10 the team is on top or near the top of the conference then I will apologize for my anti-Cassel crusade and will admit BB knew all along this kid was better than he looked and we all knew nothing from what we saw all preseason (which the team could care less what I think anyway)

If he sucks at that time or is replaced then its time for the Cassel ball washers to admit Cassel was a big mistake

Lets see who wins shall we?

One other thing - I heard the Boston Walmart will still keep that position open if Matt needs it in the spring ;)

Pathetic. You sound like you want him to fail just to soothe your ego and be proven right.

No, I didn't but apparently you didn't watch that game...

It's already too late for you to apologize for the venom you spewed and persist in spewing.

Football is a team game. They will win or lose based on team performance which is a concept you've already proven you have no appreciation or understanding of.

You're just a spoiled child acting out because you didn't get your way and now rather than admit you've been dead wrong all along you just spam the board with endless crap to underscore how unhappy you are that your season is ruined and your veiled hope is that ours and this teams is too.

That is the defiinition of a resident troll.

So what you are saying if he somehow has a great season you won't come back here with Mo and Company and taunt those who said he would suck - You are full of sh!t if you say you would not so don't lie

Its going to happen one of two ways

Cassel plays great and the ball washers get revenge and brutilize us with theirs
keyboards

Cassel sucks and the guys who thought he would say 'I told you so'

And no,I don't wish bad luck on Matt,I am a Pats fan and have to stand by what the team does and hope they win of course and if I have to apologize I will do so proudly and with sincere regret because that means the team is doing well - So Bank on that, son

We will see how unimportant the Quarterback position is to this team when the season ends whenever it may be in late december or as late as early february

We will see if BB can put anyone at QB and win double digit games

We will see if this team is so strong and good that it will overcome losing the franchise player

We will see Mr. tough internet guy...We will see....

Why bring Gutz up? Is it likely that either he or O'Con is going to pull the game out if Cassel is hurt? They'd both just be sent out to wing it within their limited playbooks.

Gutz was not picked up immediately I think because BB wants him to hook on to another team where he might have a future. He didnt, so now he is back on the PS to run the scout team and to get called up in Cassel gets hurt. I dont think BB is risking much not giving him a roster spot, OConnel will playout any game Cassel gets hurt....and Gutz will be called up. This year is a perfect audition for Cassel, I dont think he comes back if he plays well or not but you never know.

Um, no. I really don't care what you think I just find it sad that you can't calm your ego and put a bit of faith into Matt since you really have no choice. I'm not going to waste my time coming back to rub it in peoples faces if he does good. What use would it be?

And I'm a female.

That explains why you don't get it...;)

This is all about bragging rights for him. And fear of the alternative. He's so invested in the we'll see whose right underlying argument he's even admitted it. Believe me, he'd subconsciously rather they all fail now than see the guy he eviscerated succeed.
