This might sound absolutely crazy, but why dont we sign him. Yeah he hasnt played since 1993, but its worth a shot, he does have 2 Super Bowl Rings....

No, just joking...I was watching Inside the NFL and he seems to think very highly of Matt Cassel. He said he has watched film, although fairly limited amounts, and thinks this kid could have been a first round pick coming out of USC had he beaten out Leinhart. Dont give me the crap that "had" he beaten out Leinhart. Brady split time with Henson. Anyways, living in NY, and listening to Boomer Esiason every morning, he really respects the opinion of Simms. This has to give some hope for optimism. I think the Patriots are going to have a very good year, a lot better than what most pundits have predicted after the Brady injury...Go Pats

By the way, anyone tailgaiting at the Meadowlands this weekend? Let me know.

Phil could have been bitter because the Patriots did not hire his son this week so that is good to hear that he is trying to be objective.

phil is always pro pats.

So right SVN, i was really hoping we would take his son but now he is a Titan. I have so much respect for Phil Simms as a journalist and when he played. Everything he says makes so much sense when he commentates on Live games.

Phil probably realizes Tenn is a better fit for his son. No matter what happened here, Chris would never live up to Tom and would be gone after the season. In Tennessee, Chris might become the long term solution (depending on Vince Young, of course).

We should...we're the best team there is.

Not after the snowball incident in the old Foxboro stadium. It took him a couple of years to get over that! ;)

It must be hard for him to watch what has happened with his son Chris. Glad he caught on somewhere and hope he has some success in Tenn.

i heard on WFAN the day simms was sent back from the pats. mike francesa asked him that belichick says "no one worked out even though your son was there". Simms says, if thats what belichick says then thats what happened. "i havent heard from my son but i have heard from someone that there was no work out" . i bet he talked to BB and all not to put in a word but just generally but he didnt spill the beans so to speak on radio.
Also, i also think its much better when he doesnt go about lobbying for his son through what he has been through like vince young's mom is doing or the manning dad does.

Let me throw this at you, and of course I have not even a hint of info to say this actually happened, but:

What if Phil called Bill, as they are friends. What if he said something like, "hey Bill, Tennessee wants to talk to my son, and he could end up being the long term solution there. He's never going to beat out Tommy long term." Blah, blah, and so BB sends him home with no work out.

For those of you that say "well, why then did he also send home Ratay"? I haven't come up with a decent answer for that one yet. :)

well its possible but doubt it i think.iam more concered to know that they were invited before brady got hurt. which meant cassel wasnt very high on BB's confidence list ?
i know we are all behind cassel but i think he is on a short leash right now until the bye week. so another visit from rattay wont be surprising.

That's because he understands the whole game and apprecaites how much coaching and preparation play into it. Look who he played for.

Cassel is on a long leash, because there's no one behind him. You bring in a guy like Rattay or Culpepper or Vinny now and get them reading the playbook so they are ready to go when the moment comes. You don't wait until the shiat hits the fan and then decide to start developing a Plan B.

Let's face it, it's probably easier to replace Vince Young than Matt Cassel at this point, He just wants his kid to get a shot to play.;)

What's wrong with Joe Montana?

this blurb from Simms really has me fired up for some games "passion"

"I’d like to see a few games before I predict the rest of the year based on the injury to Tom Brady. But it’s amazing what this does especially for the short term. It intensifies the divisional rivalries like the Jets and New England Patriots. You know that the New England players and the coaches were hearing, ‘Well your season is over…The only reason you ever won was because of Tom Brady and it wasn’t about defensive play, or strategy, or coaching or nothing.’ So that’s what I’m going to look at in this game. Does it heighten what they want to prove to the world? You know football players always want to win, but sometimes there is nothing wrong with extra motivation. Like from the way you were treated by a team a year before and how they played against you. But now it’s not even the Jets that have gotten the Patriots riled up. It’s the natural reaction to the fact that so many people think they can’t sustain or hold on without Tom Brady . . . The word for Sunday’s Jets and Patriots game is passionate. We are going to see some raw emotion this weekend."

Simms is the man. he is a pats lover. take him over marshall faulk any day!

phil is always pro pats.

Indeed. BB was the second most important coach on Simm's team, and some would dispute the "second" part.
