I don't read the Herald any longer for Pats coverage because of the Tomase fiasco, but the mere notion of Borges getting another major print platform in Boston gives me the heebie jeebies. You just KNOW he's going to be an agitator bent on stirring up sewage.

Numerous reliable Scott’s Shots’ sources are confirming that ex-Boston Globe writer, Ron Borges, is in discussions with the Boston Herald about filling one of three vacant spots on sports editor Hank Hryniewicz’s desk.

If true, a Borges hire would indicate the Herald is either very bold or very desperate, as the scars from the John Tomase Saga still linger at the city’s struggling second fiddle news gatherer. At the very least, the paper’s editor, Kevin R. Convey, would be stretching his promised “bond of trust” with readers to the limits if his sports department scoops up Borges, the crosstown rival’s ex-plagiairst.

When asked specifically about Borges via a Monday afternoon email from Shots, Hryniewicz would only say, “I’m still in the interviewing process for all three openings on the staff and I’m quite happy with the way the process is moving forward.”

Borges, it appears, would be in line for the general columnist slot left vacant by Tony Massarotti’s departure to the Globe. Borges would obviously have a heavy football bent to his columns, the way the now-branded “Mazz” leaned toward baseball and as the Brady injury showed for WEEI.com on Sunday, Borges does have a lot of bulldog left in that bully persona of his. (Traffic soared at the site Sunday night and into Monday, according to a WEEI.com operative.) For his new part-time employer, Entercom, Borges was ahead of the Brady-out-for-season story (with Yahoo!’s Michael Silver, it should be noted) as his deep and well-placed league connections were once again on display while the competing locals struggled to gain confirmation of the ACL injury.

I feel unclean now...check out what I posted back in July:

Hmm, let's see...so we need an experienced sports reporter with plenty of NFL contacts who'd be desperate enough to take a job at a paper that's in a very public state of disarray. And said paper has just lost some of its most prominent, opinionated voices. Gosh, that's a tough one.

yoo-hoo, Ronnnnnieee....

Anybody just hear something? Nah, must be my imagination.

Borges still breathing? NOOOOOOOO!!!

Is it beyond the realm of comprehension that Borges got the idea from YOUR POST??? :bricks:

Well, you certainly know how to help someone feel good about themselves! ;)

(Personally, I wouldn't mind in the slightest if RB took a job at the Herald -- I've no intention of buying the Herald or reading it on-line.)

Say what you will about Borges, but I think it is a smart move by the Herald. Everyone hates the guy, but everyone reads the guy. His articles have become far more read since he went from a Patriot cheerleader to a Belichick hater. That's why he plays up the hate and why he taught Felger to do the same.

People biatch about Borges which usually point other to read his inflamatory articles. You see it happen all around the country, the media guy in the black hat always gets talked about more than the one in the white hat.

Look at on this board. I guarantee you if you posted two threads, one about an article by Mike Reiss writing a great report on the Pats and one about an article by Borges trashing the Pats, I guarantee you the thread about Borges would have twice as many posts.

Totally agree; I really wasn't joking suggesting it seemed like a match made in heaven. A shaken, shrunken Boston sports section needs to make some noise in a hurry, who ya gonna call?

Herald must be on it's last legs or what?

Who cares? Let him go there - I don't read the Herald. Didn't read it much b/f the Tomase BS and consciously don't read it afterwards.

The Herald is on life support. For Ronnie it's a step down from Morrissey Blvd. but it beats the hell out of blogging for a sports radio station dot com run by a bunch of twenty something former bloggers... He's a GD HOF voter after all...

Duh...it just came to me - needs even a short term platform in print to cover the chicken and egg debate (Brady vs. Belichick)...

Hmmmmmm. Desperate newspaper franchise picks up over-rated, has-been, turd/hired gun in last gasp effort to salvage existence....

GM and coach of second rate football franchise pick up washed-up semi-retired, turnover-machine in last-gasp effort to stop career death spiral......

Smacks of despiration.

Not only that, he still thinks Bledsoe is better than Brady and he's not budging !
Bledsoe's failures in Buffalo and Dallas haven't shown him anything?

Well, I don't mind if he goes to the Herald. I don't click there anymore, anyway.

Match made in heaven. No reason to read Ron or read the Herald.

No problem, I no longer read the Herald, even on line and I no longer read Tony Massaroti since his rant about the stupid fans. Fortunately I've missed Tomase on Sports Night but unfortunately I have been exposed to Massaroti a couple times.

Well I love it.

I never want to read an article by Wrong Borges again.

And since I never read the Herald, he may as well be there.

Borges to the Globe would have been disastrous. I was barely able to stomach them hiring Tony Squeakeroti. I need at least local paper to read.

Borges to the Herald? ... a match made in heaven!

i could care less, haven't read the herald since spring
