I am very glad to see how many ppl have rallied for Cassel. He did play well, and deserves the support. I for one am very excited about this whole upcoming season!

The truth is that Cassel may take many games to really grow into his full potential. He has had precious few live snaps.

How do you think fans will react? With patience, or impatience?

(I think if he doesnt panic and throw a lot of picks -- ie if he manages the game -- but still loses, it will be ok and a sign of being on a learning curve)

You got to give at least 4 games.

Yes, the Pats beat the Colts 44-13 in Brady's first start. But that was hardly Brady's fault. Brady was 13-23, 168 with 0 TDs. The defense did an awesome job and we had more rushing yards than passing yards.

As long as Matt throws less Int than future HOFer Peyton Manning threw in the game against the Chargers last year, I will be defending Matt and saying give him more time.

They are going to lose with Cassel. But i dont think that many games. If he can manage the game...we will be good.

Then he'll get thrown under the bus and the calls for O'Connell/Gutierrez/Testaverde will begin. Such is the fate of backup qbs.

or maybe do what Steeler fans did to Tommy Maddox and throw garbage on his lawn.

I object to the title of this thread!

Cassel will not lose nor win. This is team sport. The title should read, "What if the New England Patriots lose?"

Last time I checked there are 53 player on the roster not one.

If this team is not at least 5-3 by the 1/2 way point its time to let Mr.Cassel sit on the pine and ALOT of fans will be saying similar...

So you expect us to believe that this team would have the same record if Brady was starting instead of Cassel?

Because thats exactly what you mean by that statement, thats absurd

95% of the time the quarterbacks play will indicate if the team is winning or not - The quarterback is the key to any offense

Usually if the starting quarterback is stuggling, the offense is not scoring and the team is losing

What you are also implying is that 53 players are in every game - Last time I looked about 15 or 20 of them barely see the field unless its in an emergency with the exception of special teams where some bench warmers get a few plays

The team is going to lose with Cassel at QB - quite possibly even Sunday. Last year was an abberation. Teams don't go 16-0.

What will happen to him if the team loses more than expected? He'll still play. There is no other option at this point.

if the team loses with Cassel at QB I expect that they'll show up and play again the following week...with Cassel at QB. might lose again too...but they might win also. the fans will call for a QB change but the nice thing about BB is that he doesn't give a rats arse what you or I think, or the media thinks and will do what HE thinks is best for the team.

Are you truly asking if there will be any patience practiced on this board?
Clearly you havent spent much time here.

Here is what I think. HE doesn't lose the game. The TEAM does. HE doesn't win the game. The TEAM does.

So, whether the TEAM wins or the TEAM loses, Cassel is the QB for the near future.

Hold on one second. What if the Patriots lose 45-43? Are you going to say "well, Brady would have gotten us 46 points"? Fact of the matter is not every Patriot win has come because of the outstanding play of Brady. In fact some of come in spite of mediocre play by Brady.

Cassel doesn't play on defense. He doesn't play on special teams and he is only 1/11 of the offense. The New England Patriots will win or lose, not Cassel.

The trouble with the learning curve is that this is probably Cassel's last

year with the team. He is actually grooming his skills for another team.

;)

(just preparing myself, and maybe a few others, for some reality)

ALL so true...people are totally forgetting TEAM in all of this...More like the 01 season..when the team was underdog...although differences now..

So if the team starts losing and is 3-5 by the half you are all going to say 'The Patriots suck this year as a TEAM' or will you say 'Cassel needs to be replaced?'

I am betting on the latter because as soon as/if this team loses 2 OR 3 games in a row all hell will break loose on this forum with Cassel needs to go chants

And likely from some of the members in this very thread

Hopefully we won't see those chants and the team will win consistently, BUT guaranteed its Matt's head on a platter at patsfans by the majority if they do start to lose

We'll have to lose maybe 4 of the next 6 games before Cassel's job is in any kind of jeopardy.

He is going to lose a game. He's going to lose games. He's going to have at least 1 absolute stinker like Brady did against Denver in 2001. But we're going to stick with him through those games like we stuck with Brady then. And it's going to be the right move once again.
