Just imagine: Matt Cassel leads us to 2 or 3 more straight victories. Doesn't matter if they're close and we're biting our nails. A win is a win.

ESPN, etc. -- being the clowns that they are -- are always in search of a new storyline. By this time, Tom Brady going down is "old news". What's the new news?

"Have the Patriots found another Tom Brady?"

Headlines everywhere. ESPNs 35 pseudo-analysts comparing the fall of Bledsoe with game 1 of this season. The similarities are pointed out -- yes, Brady started for Michigan but for awhile HE TOO WAS A BACKUP! AND THEY BOTH WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL!

And the mania begins -- and everyone gets sick of hearing about "The Matt Cassel Show" (doo doo dee doo). But they still get to hate the Patriots because ESPN spends too much time on them.

I hope espn files chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and winds up..

Taking this thing one game at a time and just focusing on the Jets, I can't express how much I'd like to see Belichick (not Cassel) and company kick the Jets ***e$. I can see the "Yahoo!: Brady out for the year" NY Post article hanging on the wall as they prepare for that game.

I think the Pats will come out pumped up like they haven't been in a long, long time. There is a new reason to have a chip on their shoulders and everyone is counting them down & out. Like Brady was the only good player we had.

I think the Pats will overwhelm the Jets this Sunday. I would also love to see a return to smash mouth defensive football...who knows, maybe we will!:D

Pats 24
Jets 14

I already know how fans of other teams will turn this into a win-win scenario for them:

If the Pats have a good season and go deep into the playoffs or something close, they'll spin it as "Brady really was just a system QB, he was overrated etc."

If the Pats suck it will be, "Bill Belicheat was nothing without Brady and his cameras."

Whether this manages to permeate itself into the national media types like Easterbrook or whoever I don't know, but one of these two will be the mantra of other fans depending on how our season ends up. Never mind the fact that it takes a great QB AND a great coach to win 3 SBs, this is the rationalization they will need to still feel like they can talk shyte about something.

Upside: they have to be afraid of the Pat's forever, regardless of projections. That, I like.

FOR SURE. This Meme is probably already being circulated for either scenario.

Wow, did I black out for a decade and miss Bledsoe's 3 super bowl victories, league MVP, and two Super Bowl MVPs? Did I miss Drew setting TD passing records? I had no idea how eerily similar the two QB losses were. I must have lived the mid and late 90s in a fog to forget all that, but I guess BSPN will fill me in!

bet: If the Pats win 3-4 more in a row, they (ESPN) will look to resurrect some aspect of spygate.

This is what will happen:

Scenario A: Patriots are good, Cassel takes them to playoffs.
Media Reaction: Brady is a system quarterback.

Scenario B: Cassel stinks, no playoffs.
Media Reaction: Belichick is overrated, is nothing without Brady.

Well - that is a dumb argumenmt because we can say that Steve Young won a SBowl after Montana left with the same "system"... does that make Montana a system QB? NOT!

Difference is consistency. Can a QB do it for 6-7 years? Look at Rex Grossman - he took a team to the SBowl! Eli Manning! Trent Dilfer! Issue is that of consistency but you are right - they naysayers will have their arguments ready....

Obviously it's a stupid argument, but that is going to be the next wave of anti-Pats garbage. Pretty much everything that was said last year against the Pats was a poor argument, but that didn't stp the idiots surrounding us from saying it over and over and over again...

From what I have experienced - they wil ALWAYS have something to say. They will ALWAYS say he is a system QB no matter what.

The Media seems to just repeat itself. One outlet says something and 27 other outlets and sources say the same thing. How many times have we heard in the last day and a half, "this will be Cassell's first start since high school"? They always have something to say, although it usually isn't anything original.........but once a person hears something three times, whether its right or wrong, they remember it.......

I made the mistake of reading the comments to the recent Brady article. Saying stuff like Brady is an old man and that the dynasty is dead and all this karma BS.

Bunch of goddamn idiots there. Idiocy pisses me off.

You are right sir. Excellent! What about Dungy without Peyton? Just an average overrated coach? Will his wings suddenly fall off and his halo tilt? We can start a new thread. What if Peyton went down? Would Sorgi have a better chance for success with the Colts than Cassel with the Pats? The greatest coach in the NFL by anti-Bill people is Dungy. Would he succeed more? My thoughts would be Pollian changes some rules. Thoughts?

Dungy was pretty good in Tampa.

I can just hear it now...

"Brady's out for the year and they're STILL winning?! They MUST be a bunch of cheaters then!"

Yap yap yap...

BINGO! WE'VE GOT BINGO! If the Pats win a few games in a row, or have a good season I bet thats is exactly what will happen. A few dopes (Easterbrook, Schlereth, etc) will put a subtle comment about "oh, they must be taping signals again, wink, wink" or "How can they be doing this without Brady, what are the Pats hiding". And that will just get the ball rolling. Then good old Arlen Spector will chime in.
