OT: Vince Young talking about quitting again

The Nashville Tennessean reports Vince Young on Monday "indicated to those around him he didn't want to play football any more." The Titans may be planning to move on without him.

This isn't the first time we've heard this from Young. And "there are indications" the team is ready to move forward with Kerry Collins, even when Young gets healthy. And that assumes Young even wants his job back. Young's mother, rightly concerned, pleaded for people to give her son "space" and "love." But it won't be so simple. A psychologist reported Young was "extremely depressed" and one wonders when he'll see the field again.

People should not make fun of Young. There are ALOT of people who hate their job, and it looks like Football is not for Vince.

On the Big Show today on WEEI, there were references to this situation which indicated some found it humorous. Regardless of one's team affiliation, it is anything but funny. Sad is more like it.

Depression and not football is more likely the cause of this. They describe him as extremely depressed. His family sent police to find him. This is more serious than not liking football.

Damn that's really sad. The kid has talent he just needs better coaching and a system built for his style of play which the Titans do not have. I mean really who the hell are his wide recievers? What ever happened to David Givens while were at it?

Amen to both. When you're in a bad mental state and have a demanding job/lifestyle you hate, it can be a chicken and egg situation. I once had a very tiny version of the same and decided to give up the money/prestige of the work, and I've been soooo much happier since. Here's hoping that's all it takes for Vince, too.

I'm serious. This kid needs some help or at least someone to talk to. Maybe some time away from the game would do him some good. Depression is no joke. My uncle went through it, and he just wasted away. It was very sad. We did all that we could to get him help, but he kept rejecting it. I hope Vince's family is firm with him. I've always felt that my family wasn't firm enough with my Uncle.

True that. If he is indeed suffering from depression, no amount of reasoning will help, he needs treatment and I truly hope he receives it.

Sounds like he's let things really get to him. Maybe he paid too much attention to john doe fan and the media. No matter who you are your going to have critics. There was this guy once, his name was Jesus.................you know the rest.


Nobody is perfect and he needs to remember it's just a game. One in which he's well compensated for playing. Do your best and if it's not good enough oh well you tried.

As someone who suffered for years from depression and finally got help myself, I understand what he's going through. I agree that it's the depression causing it. If he gets the right help and possibly the right medication, he should be fine. I doubt he's looking for sympathy. I hope he gets the help he needs.

It's a serious problem, and I hope he gets help. He has too many bumps in the road not to walk away for a bit, IMO. He obviously doesn't wanna play and I can't hold that against him.

EDIT--- The people bashing him are so ignorant. You have no idea what depression does, all the money in the world can't help you with it.

I do feel back, cuz I know from personal experience, depression is a M-effer. But seriously, there is not one other coach in the NFL I despise more then him (cept M'gina). He has totally destroyed VY potential, by not using him correctly. I always liked Vince and hope that he eventually finds peace.

Depression is a tricky bird. I've found through personal experience that the only way to get out of it is to work. Pick yourself up one day, resolve to change your position, stop feeling sorry for yourself and make changes. Small at first, but palpable. For me, it was making a commitment to my job. To find out just how well I utilize my personal skill set. It took about a month or two of no results and strong desires to just sit at home before I began to enjoy life again. Ten months after finding the resolve, I was on my second promotion of the quarter and running the largest sales channel of the company. I write this not to brag, but to illustrate just what a hinderance depression can be. It's still a struggle to this day and I have to be dilligent about staying buisy, excersizing daily and fighting counter-productive impulses.

Vince Young, if he is depressed, faces a challenge. A lot of kids his age fall into a similar funk. It's another self-identity crisis, usually compounded by some real failure; learning that you aren't as invincible as you previously thought. If he works hard at staying with the program, he will likely find that he is who he thought he was all along. He just needed to view adversity as opportunity to learn and improve, not a hinderance.

He gets my best, most sincere wishes. Just getting out the door can be a challenge at times, despite just how great a person really is. If he walks away from football, that's his decision. If I was in Jeff Fisher's shoes I would encourage VY every day to stick it out day to day. To work himself out of the rut, and remind him of why he was taken 3rd overall.
