This reminds me of the 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 seasons in basketball when Jordan prematurely retired and also Tiger Woods being out for the year. Can any team that wins truly say they beat the best? Can the AFC representative say they truly faced the most challenging road and the NFC team say they faced the AFC's best? While Houston Rocket fans probably don't care that they didn't play Jordan in the finals, everyone knows the Bulls would have been there to represent the East and smoke the Rockets in the finals. And everyone knows a truly healthy Tiger would have won 2 or 3 more tournaments this year. To me this is an off-year, almost like if Joe Montana was out for an entire season in the late 80s.

Yes. The winner of this year's Super Bowl will be the best team. Injuries happen to every team, and we will not be the first team to lose a key guy, even if he was the best player in the league.

No. Even with Brady, winning the Super Bowl wasn't guaranteed.

Too hypothetical. Chargers fans can say the same about last year with LT, Gates and Rivers too injured to be effective in the game against the Pats. Injuries are part of the game. If the Pats got to the Super Bowl and Brady was injured in the AFC Championship and couldn't play in the finale, then you can have a legitimate argument.

This won't be an issue since we will be winning the SB this year.

Yeah, but the Chargers weren't undefeated last year going into that game, they weren't the favorites to go all the way, nor were they getting 7-2 odds at the beginning of this season. Don't get me wrong, I agree, but it's not as big a stretch.

no. I will gladly take a tainted SB if thats the case

Why would it be tainted, do we need to have more starters injured when we win it?

true...

as to the OP question....

this years superbowl will have a *

*NFL MVP did not play

Are you an idiot? - Do you realize that the Patriots DID NOT win the Super Bowl last year?

Are you aware that the Giants who DID win the SB lost thier 2 best defensive players in Osi to injury and Strahan to retirement?

Are you going to call it tainted because the Giants likely won't win since Osi is gone? - Hardly

Losing Brady only evens the playing field, there are still no teams who will dominate in this league, the Patriots still have as good a chance as anyone to win it all. As is always the case, the team who gets hot in december through february will be crowned champion. Hopefully the Patriots are the hot team come playoff time.

When the Pats win the Super Bowl this year, then not only will they win this year's championship, but they will earn the right to replay last year's Super Bowl, as well.

It's bad luck if you ask me. When we thought we had a break with a easy schedule, TB was out of the season in the first game. Everybody predicted us this and that in the begining. Guess what happens now?

Nearly everybody thinks us a looser. WTF. We were a champion and we are underdog. It all started less than 24 hours.

I'm still shocked.

D and C had this discussion this morning on WEEI!
