Daunte Culpepper

No, I certainly agree he'd be coming into a better situation. But for those non-conspiracy theorists among us, I'm forced to assume that there are good football reasons that Culpepper is unemployed in a league in which Kyle Orton and JT O'Sullivan have starting jobs.

I'm just not convinced that a guy no one wanted to sign all summer is somehow going to guarantee us a SB championship, as you state rather matter-of-factly in your original post.

the same reason basically nobody would touch Moss because of seeing him play in Oakland. You got to see Culpepper fail in Miami and Oakland, who would want to sign him?

Because C-Pep is the past. The Bears and the 49ers and the Dolphins and the Ravens and the Raiders and the rest are about the future. But we are not about the future. We are about right this second. We are about the past. We are about a veteran Moss and Welker and Bruschi and Vrabel and Harrison and on and on-- all guys from the NFL's past, not its future.

He's stunk in his last 3 seasons at 3 different teams, not just 1 team.

his last season in Minny was similar to Dillons season in Cincy, Moss quit on the team, not Culpeppers fault. Then after his injury he went to Miami and Oakland of all places, not exactly where you want to go to impress the ladies. Im not saying Culpepper is the player he once was, i look at it similar to Moss, Moss still isnt the player he once was but you put him in the right situation on a great team and look what happens. Culpepper would play MUCH better here in NE than he did in Miami and Oakland, he has TONS more experience than Cassel, plus he will be reunited with his buddy Moss and both of them are hungry for a ring are you kidding me??? Sign him for a 1 year deal to fill in for Brady and he will play so hard for a ring.

No one ever really doubted Moss' talent to still be an effective player in this league, and his situation was never comparable to Culpepper's present one. I mean, the guy was forced to retire by e-mail last week because he was so frustrated no one would sign him. Unless you truly believe he's been blacklisted or something stupid like that, I have to say I trust football people who make that judgment.

That's not to say he's not a better option that Simms or Ratay or any of the other garbage, but given that he doesn't know the system, I'm not sure he's a safer bet to get wins right now than Matt Cassel.

please will you guys get off Chad Jackson, everyone was pretty shocked when he was cut and alot of people wanted big things out of him. I still think he is going to sign somewhere else and be good, and we will regret letting him go. If it doesnt happen then i will glady admit i was a complete fool and totally missed on Jackson, but geez can we at least see him play a couple of seasons in the NFL first?

Hey, don't apologize for your avatar. The genius Bill Belichick thought more of Chad Jackson than Marcus McNeill, Greg Jennings, Devin Hester, Maurice Jones-Drew, Tarvaris Jackson, Jerious Norwood, LenDale White, Marques Colston, Mark Anderson, and Antoine Bethea. He should apologize.

Hey now, let's not get carried away. :D

not true there was tons of people speculating that Moss was washed up, not the player he once was. Even Art Shell the former coach of the Raiders said Moss was on his last legs. His production and total lack of effort in Oakland fooled people, but people still thought it. The Pats knew Moss wasnt washed up, they knew it was the situation he was in.

I just have no faith in Cassel at all, hes an undrafted free agent type player who is now the starting QB of the best team in the league. I do not think from seeing him play that he has what it takes to win us a championship.

Moss was never in any danger of not finding work. If the Patriots hadn't taken a chance on him, someone else would have. I found Culpepper's situation to be very different, any team could have had him this summer, and none did. That speaks for itself.

from what i remember only Green Bay was interested in trading for him and they were unwilling to give up a high pick. It took a long time for even the Pats to get involved. Im sure if he was cut he would have been picked up by some teams sure, probably more interest than Culpepper but alot of teams were scarred away from Moss because of what they saw in Oakland. The same way alot of teams wont even give Culpepper a look because of what they saw in Oakland and Miami. There is only really 32 starting QBs in the league as well and probably 3/4ths of them already have starting franchise calibur QBs, the others have rookies and backups they have been developing, its not the same as a WR where teams have 3-4 starters at wideout and much more room to add another.

Matt Cassel = no playoffs.

Kevin OConnell = playoffs but no SB.

Daunte Culpepper = SB Championship.

Briz - Please stop smoking whatever it is you are smoking.

Its much more likely that KO'C would = the Pats getting the 1st overall pick than it would them making the play-offs. He DOES NOT have a grasp on this offense. Belichick has said as much.

Culpepper is even less likely to lead this team to the Play-offs than K'OC. Why? Because he's not smart and he still tries to use his legs to win games when he's not nearly as quick as he used to be.

You are just going to have to admit that you have no idea what you are talking about and that Belichick makes you look like a single celled organism when it comes to football smart. Hell, I make you look like a single celled organism when it comes to football and Belichick is a million times smarter than I am when it comes to football.

I know its against the grain on this forum but I agree.

I'm not sure Cassel is an upgrade over Jackson, so I included him.

Yeah, but you were comparing him to Chad Jackson, not Cassel. Obviously you're correct that Chad didn't work out, but I was just having some fun at including Tavaris Jackson on any list that proves as much.

wow you can not be serious Daunte Culpepper is awful

The same people who want Culpepper here must be the same ones who thought that Bledsoe should get his starting job back when he was healthy.

Culpepper = Bledsoe....

DB here to save tha daaaaayyyy!

No he doesnt have a totally grasp on the offense but hes a much better QB than Cassel is. Cassel has a grasp on the offense but he is not -good- enough to get it done!

Culpepper used his legs alot in Oakland and Miami because he had no oline and no WRs that could get open he was running for his life every play. In Minnesota he put up some of the best passing numbers in the history of the league. He doesnt need to be albert einstine he just need to be able to play ball and i think he could do that well in this situation on a good team with great coaching and his buddy Moss.

I know alot more of what im talking about than you DB. :)

I don' think coach B has said anything in regards to Culpepper. I love how people just make things up to suit their case.

I like the analogy of Randy in Oakland as compared to New England. Let's also mention Cory Dillon in this sentence.

I agree with the Op in the sense that Culpepper might have a better chance then Cassel of going deeper into the playoffs because he can make plays.

People underrate how important Brady's athleticism is. I remember him making the other probowlers look silly in the QB chalange back when everyone said he couldn't throw the long ball.

Cullpepper if healthy is a much better athlete. And don't say Michael Vick either because Vick has never had a year like Dante did.
