The patriots only became a juggernaut offense team last year with moss and brady connecting and breaking a records

before last year, the patriots was a defense that bend but dont break, led by a poise field general tom brady and a master mind coach BB.

Now with cassel and BB the patriots might not get into the playoffs??

no way!

Belichick had never been successful as a HC without Brady at the helm so how can there not be any questions about whether the Pats make the playoffs or not?

This year should prove whether Brady was very important to BBs successful championship teams and team of the decade or whether BB is just that damn good and can do it without him
- If the team struggles and misses the playoffs, people will question things that BB could not be where he is today without Brady directing his offense, trust me it may happen

What if the patriots had peyton manning or phillip rivers, or eli manning. Do you think BB can win with those guys?

and BB also has moss and welker, a moss that came up with 50 TD catches last year.

i wont be one of the people who question it .borges and felger may. people never question how walsh and knoll would be without montana and bradshaw .
every coach needs a QB.

He'll have to work harder. I will say that one thing might work in our favor. No one knows what to expect from Cassel. He's a little different then Tom, so they can use him differently. That will take some adjusting. He's certainly more mobile, and that's not really anything we've had here. If he moves around at all, that'll be a very different look teams will be seeing.

I think the problem lies in Matt Cassell. If we had Brady Quinn or a Derek Anderson backing up Tom Brady then sure..

But many fans suspect the drop off is rather large between Brady and Cassell..as in if he was released no one would pick him up. It's like trying to win a season with Rohan Davey (wasn't he the #2 guy for a while)..

BB is a great coach but you still need the horses. Everyone thought Doc Rivers sucked till he got Kevin Garnettt. Is Cassell a horse or pony? I don't really know..

I will question it till I see how BB manages this teams season without his star QB - We know BB always has a defense to be pretty good - now is THE test of his offense

As for Walsh and Knoll we will never know

One guy that stands out for me and who I still think is one of the best of all times is Joe Gibbs

Gibbs in his prime, won Super Bowls with his leading QBs Doug Williams and Mark Ripien - THAT is a great coach who can get a team to dominate with subpar QBs and we shall see what BB does with his new untalented QB since his star is no longer on the roster this year

You seem to forget that Belichick ran one of the best defenses of all time--the New York Giants of the 80s and early 90s. He had great players, but he also knew what he was doing. It's not an accident that the guy has won so many rings. He took the lowly Browns franchise to the playoffs despite a fanbase that hated him and ownership's threats to move the team out of Cleveland.

He's not a great offensive coach, but McDaniels is an above-average coordinator. Suffice to say, Belichick has proven himself as a leader... with or without Tom Brady.

again your example is correct but probably outdated . it was a different time when they ran a few basic plays and ran a lot. what did gibbs do the 2nd time around with brunell and cambell ?
as i posted before...walshś record before montana was drafted was 2-14 and then 6-10 the first then they won the SB. So WE KNOW what walsh was without montana.

Gibbs had numerous OL injuries during his 2nd tenure. IOW-it wasn't the QB problems that undid him.

yeah..so by the same token BB can have some injuries he cant overcome. in fact BB has already coached with light, harrison lost for seasons , without receivers and seymour and with troy brown at cornerback. so he has had his share of issues.
bottomline every coach needs good players ,and any good group of players also need a good leader and coach.

If anything, Gibbs just looked LOST in his 2nd tenure. He was still stuck in his "line'em up/smash'em in the mouth" philosophies in the 80's, when we're obviously in a passing era. Plus hiring Al Saunders as his OC ended up confusing everything even more.

When has BB run one of the greatest units of all time when he didn't have either Tom Brady or Lawrence Taylor? ;)

Seriously, I'm in the camp that says the Pats will be one of the better teams in the league this year.

in Bill we trust and will continue. he did well wherever he was, whether as an assistant or head coach. and that counts the browns too imho. i dont know what our record will ths year...but i know that no other coach would do a better job with what the pats have then anyone else.

well its that way more than ever now, because in bill we trust, on the qb issuie.. he has not had to worry about this for quite a while..
