I heard Bill's interview with The Big Show on WEEI this afternoon and what He said about "Learning this Offense" it seems clear to Me that if the Patriots bring in a Quarterback it will either be Matt Guittierez,Damon Huard, or Vinnie Testaverde ,a couple of guys that won't have to learn the Offense. When asked specifically about Matt Guittierez Bill stated,"Yes,He's an option".

OR someone that may take a few weeks to learn..I don't think that is an option now today...but maybe in the future....where they can stash a 3rd QB and have him take a month to learn..many options..for this minute...only 2 QBs...

Huard and Testaverde don't know the offense any better than Culpepper, Simms or Rattay. Huard was a Patriot during the Charlie Weiss years. He has experience throwing to Deion Branch, David Givens, Troy Brown and David Patten. Testeverse was a Patriot for about 4 weeks, under no offensive coordinator, on a team that featured Reche Caldwell and alot of 2 TE sets. This offense is totally different.

Damon Huard? Did you not watch the game yesterday?

Regards,
Chris

Cassel > Huard

The Patriots 2008 QB is Matt Cassel. if someone else is brought in, and someone probably will at some point, it will be to act as a backup to Cassel, not a replacement.

Agreed. Cassel is the guy. They are not going to bring in someone to compete with him so that he has to keep looking over his shoulder along with all his other thoughts. I think the only guy they are brining in is Gutz, although they might bring in a vet once things settle down, but strictly to back up Cassel & O'Connell.

No. The terminology, I'm sure, is all the same; McDaniels worked under Weis and I'm sure the transition was pretty seamless. The only reason the offense appears different is because the offense has slowly adapted to fit the personnel, but it is by no means a "different" system than what Huard worked with for three years - just different offensive gameplans. But it's not like you can go from a 2 TE offense to a 3 WR offense having to change everything in the system - it's just a different approach.

Testaverde was here for the second half of 2006 and for a time in the 2007 presason. The offensive coordinator at the time was McDaniels.

And as Chris said, Huard is now the Chiefs' starting QB with Croyle out for a few weeks.

Huard would be the perfect fit, but that was not going to happen, its Casell's team from here on in ..

Simms was the best option of the F A out there IMO

Agree. I think that they will bring Guittierez back and have him be the 3rd QB. It only makes the most sense, why bring someone new into this especially if they most likely wont be seeing the field.

Matt's our QB. Anyone new will be his backup. It doesn't sound as though BB has any intention of going outside to find more depth-it sounds like Gutz could be back to fill that role. I DO think we need someone else besides O'Connell waiting in the wings, lest godforbid something happen to Matt, and he's out for even a week. I don't think the Pats would throw O'C into the fire like that if they could help it. He may come in during certain situations but...I dunno. I think it might be asking a lot of him AND of the players. I think Gutz, who's been here 2 (?) years, gets the backup call and maybe a vet somewhere down the line. Brady, who's a vet himself, had Flutie and Vinny T during his tenure, with Matt as backup.

I bet BB brings Gutz back in at least for now. It's not looking like any vets are walking through that door anytime soon. Matt's The Man.

This is what I am waiting on.

I think this thread is 100% dead on. But that doesn't mean we won't be seeing threads all over the place suggesting any QB not currently employed (or starting....I've seen some trade suggestions) with a pulse.

I'd imagine things would have to go south in a big way before they bring in someone who doesn't know our system, as BB said this afternoon, it takes too long for a QB to come in and learn the book.

LOL
I wonder who the QB's were who called/contacted the Pats? BB said there were quite a few. Culpepper had to be one of them, maybe Vinny T offered some support too? Drew? Simms probably...I'm curious who else might be on the list, of course then everyone would freak over the ones BB didn't take.
And the beat goes on:)

OK, I'll bite--what trade suggestions have you seen? I'm sure some of them are LOL-worthy. :)

Brady Quinn. Derek Anderson.

Lets say the Browns lose a few more and Romeo turns towards "building for the future." He obviously needs to get Quinn on the field.

Derek Anderson is a fringe pro-bowler. The team is built for now. Look at Vrabel and Harrison and Light and even Seymour(sorry). On the downslope of their careers. Win this year and worry about next year next year.

Of course, if this dream scenario ever played out, I am sure Polian would scream 'collusion'.
