To be the best, you've got to beat the best.
You will never be able to say you beat the best in 2008.

Last time I checked, the Giants were the best team in the league since they are the defending champions.

The Pats are the defending AFC champions.

bolt fan....the Giants were the SB winners last season...they were not (unanimously) the best team last season...

My condolances to ther other 31 teams in the league when the patriots prove that it REALLY is all about TEAMWORK and no one player (no matter who) is above the team. Yes we will win the superbowl... BOOK IT!

Do you honestly believe that?

By what criteria do you rank teams as the best? Do you go by wins, talent, or which team actually gets closest to the superbowl and which team wins it? The way I rank them, the two teams that made it to the superbowl are the best, followed by those who made it to the AFC and NFC championship games and so on. Otherwise, the best team in 2006 would have been the Chargers since they went 14-2.

No, they won the Super Bowl but that doesn't make them the best team in the league over the course of 2007.

They might not have had the best regular season record but they definitely proved they are the best after beating the top two teams in the NFC and then the top team in the AFC. If the Patriots had went on a similar run you'd be crowning them as the best and you know it. 18-1 means nothing if you don't win a superbowl; that's the sad fact.

What will the Bolts excuse be THIS YEAR if they don't make the SB.
The Pats are the measuring stick every team in the league uses to see how good they are not the Giants.
Go back to surfing; you don't even sell out your games.

How come that dosen't surprise me....

I do rank them on the above criteria...but IMO the Patriots were the superior team last year.....

Again, what criteria do you base that assertion on? Is the best team in the NFL the one with the best record? Or is it the one that won a superbowl? I say it's the latter because I know that wins don't mean anything unless you win a superbowl.

I agree that in the regular season the Pats were the best team in the league. But, the post season counts for more and therefore the Giants are the best team based on the fact that they beat the Cowboys, Packers, and then the Patriots in the post season. That run alone makes them the best in my opinion since they had to defeat the two best teams in the NFC followed by the best team in the AFC.

Fair enough....

We ball know it wasn't the Bolts.

I'm not saying it is the Bolts. I would rank the Bolts at #3 behind the Patriots and Giants just coming off of last season. As the season continues though that ranking will change, of course depending on how they do.

actually, u are mistaken...if the pats had been the giants of last yr..i would say this..."the pats were the better team that day, but the giants were much (MUCH) better throughout the season"

(which by the way is what i say about the Pats SB win over the rams....the pats played better that day, but the rams were a better team in the season--although not by much, as in this case)

LOL, the bolts last yr were the second best team...(after teh pats), then the boys/colts, then the pack/jags are there

the giants come after ALL of these teams...

The regular season doesn't determine which is the best team because otherwise the Cowboys would have went to the superbowl instead of the Giants. If the Cowboys were really that much better than the Giants, they would have won. Same thing with the Packers and Patriots. You want to be known as the best? Then you have to prove it during the playoffs and the super bowl. The Patriots were almost there and would have been crowned as the best team ever if they had not choked in those last few minutes of the game. Those few minutes are what make the Giants a better team; they held out longer than the Patriots and won the game.
