I'm guessing he thought he'd come in and have a few years to learn the NFL game under the best QB ever. Looks like that process may have to speed up a bit - Brady's out, so he's only one Matt Cassel bump or bruise away from being out there in the spotlight.

I hope he's ready for it!

I think they will at least bring Gutz back? Maybe not, but I just can't see them putting O'Connell as the backup to Cassel this year. Maybe I'm wrong and he's ready for backup duty.

He's more ready than Gutz. BB said that the reason they waived gutz was becuase Cassel and O'Connell were farther along than him so he was the odd man out...so if they bring him back it will be to play 3rd string!

Well hey more power to him. Congrats O'Connell for picking things up relatively quickly and hopefully we won't need to see you in any meaningful games this year (unless you are the 2nd coming).

Well if you go back and read the threads prior to the roster cuts you'll see that the consensus here is that there is NO WAY O'Connell can be the backup QB. He just doesn't know enough of the plays. ;)

But of course we'll wait and see what moves the team makes. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gutz come back. All of them know more of the offense than any veteran.

O'Connell vs. Cassel... Hell yes there is 100% no way. O'Connell vs. the rest of the FA's is A LOT more debatable.

I still say if O'Connell had played for a major conference he could have been a 1st round / high 2nd round pick. Players like that ... have the ability to start their rookie season. I think he has the ability ... just doesn't have the comfort level with pro sets with a real line in front of him.
