The reason is the players need to move on as soon as possible in my opinion. So to avoid the media circus surrounding "will he or won't he", just announce that Brady is going on IR now. As much good as BB might think deceiving his evil nemesis Mangini will do, it would do more harm to have all his players & coaches get asked repeatedly about Brady's condition.

i think BB knows best what he needs to do . in the past when players have been confirmed out for the season he has announced it immediately like rodney and light but i wont be surprised if its a released statement and BB just says we are moving on to the jets¨

If he is truly done, I am sure they will announce that.
If there is but a sliver of hope he is not.. then they wont and the mysterie of what is wrong with him and when he will be back will continue.

I agree with SVN that Belichick will likely push the correct button. Unfortunately I expect that to be the IR button.

With the press confernece being pushed back til 3, I feel as if he is going to say that he is out for the year and was just waiting for the MRI results to confirm that.

Can't exactly announce that till the MRI results are in can he?

BB doesn't need to do anything until the team is required to by the league.

The team can be told privately but why tip your hand early when you can make the Jets have to practice for as long as possible not being entirely sure if they are going to face the more mobile Matt Cassel or Tom Brady.

I'm pretty sure there is no way on Earth the Jets will be preparing to face Brady, regardless of how much or how little the Patriots say.

I really don't think it makes much of a difference. The loss of Brady is going to linger all season long no matter what they do. If the Pats lose this Sunday, the media is going to ask if the Pats are done because of the loss of Brady. If they win, people will ask if the Pats can keep it out because of Brady.

In fact, if anything. I think a small glimmer of hope that Brady will be back for the playoffs would be more beneficial for the team than making a definitive annoucement that he is done. It may make them work hard in hopes that Brady comes back and brings them to the promise land in January and February.

That said, I don't see that happening. But the Brady issue is not going away the second they announce he has been IRed. The players will be asked about all year long.

The mind games BB and Mangini have played against each other lead me to feel otherwise. Until something is official with the league you can bet that Mangini isn't putting all of his eggs in one basket by telling his players not to prepare to see Brady out there.

Is it 3pm yet. I want to barf.

Yes, but at least they won't have to field questions about WHEN he'll be back and they can focus on moving forward with Matt Cassel as QB.

I wish I could bet that. I would make a ton of money betting Mangini is preparing his team to face Matt Cassel.

the entire league already knows tom is out for the year... Trying to hide the fact would be stupid.

I have gotten an advance copy of the transcript:

BB: Good morning, we have been going over the tapes from the game tapes from yesterday and have been getting our game plan ready for the Jets. I don't have to tell you they are great team that has come off a solid win against the Dolphins, we will have our hand full getting ready for them. Any questions?

R: What can you tell us about Tom Brady?

BB: He is 6'4" tall weighs 225 lbs, wears the number 12, plays QB......

R: What can you tell us about Tom Brady's injury.

BB He got hit in the knee, the doctors are looking at it.

R: Will he be back sometime down the road this season.

BB: I don't worry about the season, my focus is the Jets. We play the Jets this week they are good team in all three phases of the game -- offense, defense, special teams. I am getting ready for the Jets I am not going to speculate about something that may or may not happen down the road this season.

R: Does that mean he is definitely not playing against the Jets?

BB: Injury report comes out on Wednesday that is all I will say on the matter.

R: Reports are that you brought Chris Simms for a workout. Can you comment?

BB: A lot of players workout every day.

R: We saw him get off the plane and followed him to your office. Any comment about signing him?

BB: If we sign anyone we will make the appropriate announcement at that time.

Any other questions. okay good thanks everyone.

Does anyone in the media actually believe he is going to be back this year? There can be anyone that misinformed. I though Tom Casale left the business to be the next Jimmy the Greek.

yea mangini is not preparing to face tom thats for sure..there is a 0% chance that brady will be playin next week which probably puts a huge smile on mangini's face..i hate the jets even more now!

thegodinagreyhoodie- i literally laughed out loud when i read ur comment..thats classic belichick right theres thats for sure
