Two positive signs from yesterday's game

Thank God there's a positive thread. I'm not going to lie, I was freaking out when Brady went down. This is going to be interesting though; we're in a different world now. For years we've been complacent, expecting a win and damn-near doomsaying if the Pats only won by 7. How much louder will we cheer now when they win? We have mixed expectations. Yeah, it sucks big time losing Brady (who knows for how long as of now), but maybe this will be a more exciting football season. More heart-breaking? Maybe. I'd rather be sitting at the top of the AFC for most of the season, but I suppose this is my silver lining argument.

Cassel did well too, against scrubs yes, but well nonetheless. Assuming Brady is out for the season (again, not sure yet), maybe we'll get a new hero for the season; Maroney might shine as an elite back. Maybe Cassel will become a solid starter. Maybe Moss will take over leadership. For what it's worth, I think that's pretty cool. Could be good or bad in the end, but at least it breathes new life into an all-too-complacent fanbase.

[Yeah, Bears D > Chiefs D, but Satan Manning's experience > Cassel's experience.]---------------------------- LOL Well said

Bruschi looked good to me. I don't think anyone else mentioned him yet.

Cassell played well. The pass from the endzone was the best play he has ever made.
Some of his passes were a little late and who knows who was at fault with the difference in the route that Welker cut off, but overall he was better than he showed anytime in preseason.

I think the team is prepared to go with Cassell as the starter and a vet backup. We'll probably see some games that he costs us with a key pick, but this is our team and our QB now.

I think that the D played well, but I expected more consistent pressure from the D line and I don't think I saw the amount of pressure I think this lineup should be capable of applying. Hopefully this D will progress as the season goes along. We'll need a shutdown effort for the next two weeks while the offense adjusts to a different style with a heavier run mix with an emphasis on screens, short passes etc. I don't want to concede the division to the hated Jets, so the next 2 weeks are crucial.

I'd feel more comfortable if the kickoffs were handled by Slater or someone other than Hobbs. I know he had the big return yesterday, but we aren't that deep at corner that we can afford to lose him.

Our Special teams coverage will need to be better too. It seems we are giving up too much yardage too often. My observation is that we aren't making that tackle on the first or even the second contact with the returner. That will come back to bite us if we don't fix it now.

C'mon Ct, get with the program - we're not allowed to praise our backup QB around here. If you're going to talk positive about Cassel, you have to include one of the new board catch-phrases as well:
- he got lucky
- he has no arm
- he has no fire
- it was only against the Chiefs
- O'Connell would have put up 28 pts
- Culpepper would have put up 40, all to Randy Moss (because, you know, they played together previously)

Please edit accordingly, thanks.

:D

You left out he sucked in the pre-season, and the pre-season is more important than the regular season.

FWIW, right now, I'd say Bills > JEST.

You may be right about the Bills. They certainly took it to the Seahawks yesterday. Hopefully we can rise to the challenge. The running backs and O line will need to carry more of the weight.
