I know this may be radical.
BUT, the QBs mean alot to the league.
What other sport can a teams chances be so radically changed in the first game by one freak hit.

If you make it a 15 yard penalty to hit qbs at the knees or below, it might decrease this type of injury

I'm all for protecting the QB, but sometimes it just happens. I don't think that what happened yesterday was something that requires a rule change.

No. Absolutely not. The quarterback is a football player as well and defenses should be allowed to tee off on him just as they would any other player at any other position. Let's not put a skirt on the quarterback position just because Tommy got hurt.

Yes, please do NOT let us turn into the Colts because of what happened yesterday...

I agree. Remember all those times we would complain that if someone touched Manning they would get a 15 yard penalty? Who was it in the 2006 AFC Championship Game, Alexander? He grazed his helmet and picked up a 15 yarder.

You can overprotect the QBs too. It's still football. This was a freak play. It happens every year in the NFL. This year it just happened to our QB.

That would be a tough rule to enforce, as it would require the official to make a judgment in real time about the impact of a block that happens in less than a second on the end of a play. I'm as anxioius to protect the QB as anyone, but, I'm afraid that this is just part of the game.

I wasn't able to watch yesterday's game, but learned of the hit on the internet. So, I turned on the tube in a ripping rage, ready to scream at the picture about a dirty hit. But, I didn't see one. He was blocked into Brady and was clearly just continuing his tackling motion when he made contact with his leg. We're all looking at in now in super slo-mo, but it happened "bang bang" in no more than a second. If the block had grounded the tackler a foot (or even six inches) shorter, we'd be talking about a 34--10 win this morning.

How about a rule forbidding a defender, at the cost of a Personal Foul penalty & possible ejection, from hitting a QB at or below the knees while the QB is standing still in the pocket? Once the QB begins to run in any direction, then he is fair game, like any other ball-carrier.

It ALREADY IS against the rules.

"No defensive player who has an unrestricted path to the quarterback may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction."

Plain and simple, Wilfork got fined for it, and so will Pollard. If he's not, we should officially call for Goodell's head.

And the ref?? He thought it was OK..Carl Cheffers..first game AS a ref...should be his last..I don't think he did it on purpose..but...if the rules is there..ENFORCE IT!!

Wilfork got fined $12,500 for his hit. And Wilforks hit appears more 'dirty' than Pollards. So are you gonna be happy or even care if Pollard gets fined say 5 grand or 7,500? Does it really even matter? It's less than what pollard makes for one quarter of work.

He wasn't blocked into Brady. He was on the ground, laid there, and then lunged from the ground into Brady's leg. Suspend him.

really? he wasn't blocked into brady? who was that RB on his back then?

Sorry, Morris did a really good job of making it look like Pollard lept forward under his own power into Brady's planted leg. Thanks to the new video you've provided, it's clear that Morris actually picked Pollard up off the ground and threw him into Brady. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah really. Morris Blocked him sure but he blocked him to the ground Ulf Pollard lunged unimpeded on his own at the best QB ever and may have seriously injured his knee.

Last time I checked someone on your back would make it harder to lunge at someone but don't let physics play into it.

You can try and tell yourself it was dirty all day long. It wasn't. No one outside of New England thinks it was. Heck, I'd be willing to bet that Tom Brady comes out and says that he doesn't think it was dirty.

Trying to defend (a truly dirty player) Wilfork's hit while chastizing this hit is a total homer move.

And please don't tell me you don't think Wilfork is a dirty player.
