Ligament Augmentation and Reconstruction Surgery(LARS)?
http://www.keepmovingusa.com/about-LARS.html

Could be back in about 3 months. A couple of AFL(Aussie Rules) players have had the surgery and have been back playing competitive games in 3 months. And a QB isn't as rough and tumble as AFL and other position players.

No doubt the organization are going to take the conservative route, but it's an option.

I doubt he'll come back this season. Why rush? He has a long career and a long life ahead. Not only this season.

I think it depends on what's known about the augmentation. If its 0% riskier, with upside then I think the Pats would do it. If the augmentation is some sort of unknown in the medical world then I don't think they risk it.

even if he were to come back in 2-3 months, cassell will be the qb rest of the way. there's no way he'll be game ready by then. cassell, hopefully, will be the hot hand at that point and you just have to go with him.

Cassell might be Trent Dilferish for the next 3 months and squeak us into the playoffs with a 10-6 record.

The playoffs are 4 months away. Brady could play.

I'm more concerned that it's multiple ligaments and not just the ACL.

I tore my acl and mcl playing soccer. I had surgery and had my acl replaced by a cadaver acl. I was back playing after 3 months, I wasn't 100% but was able to move around. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that he could be back before the playoffs.

I think Tom will get the best possible surgery that provides for the best possible future.

If that means he's back in 4 months, so be it.

If that means he's back in 8-9 months, it is what it is.

Just like I said about Marryman, Id rather have him out for the season, than have him come back to soon, and have him out for his carreer.

...This ones for you Bray, even people on IR get the ring, this one will just have another story behind it.

Always a possibility, not a great one, but always possible. Really just depends on how well-known the surgery is and how risky for the present and the future of TB.

If Cassel gets us into the playoffs with a 10-6 record and Brady is healthy enough to practice for the playoffs. Brady is the backup holding the clipboard just like Bledsoe did.

One thing to be said about doing so: the IR is a one-way ticket, so taking the chance that Brady will be healthy means holding a roster spot for him for the entire season. I'm not saying they won't do that, merely that they would need to be fairly convinced that he'd be available and 100%. If it's not a season-ender, but something that would cause him to miss, say, 6-8 weeks, I could see them doing that. But if it's going to be 3-4 months, I doubt it.

No, Brady isn't. Bledsoe was a fading star, who had been just above average for the two years prior to the injury. Brady is in his prime, maybe the greatest QB of all time. If Brady's back for the playoffs, Brady plays.

The good thing about it being a knee injury is that if he recovers, there's little chance of it affecting his play down the road. Carson Palmer suffered a similar injury in the 2005-6 playoffs, for instance, and was back at full strength by training camp and remains one of the league's best QBs.

Honestly, it's the long term risk. The guy needs to be able to live his life after football. To me 4 months and 8 months are the same.

That said, his position may allow for something that would normally require longer recovery to get him in the game faster.

I really think we're looking at season ender (unless somehow all the guesses are wrong) and we need that roster spot.

Bill always says "every player is important" and it's a good thing he believes that now. We'll see the benefits of that mind-set.

I wonder if we needed a vet if we could snag the back-up from the Vagiants. No, I'm not really joking.

How about this game plan....Keep cassel, hand the ball of 90% of the time, the other 10% throw to Welker or Moss...that simple, ok we wont win by 70 pts, we'll just win like we did a few years ago. A win is a win.

Nah, I'm in favour of Cassell, for sure. I was just mumbling out loud there. I'm sure I'm not alone in having a million scenarios fly through my brain.

David Carr? At this point, I'd take him over the other options. Heck, I'd throw a 3rd their way, and they might just bite (though they do only have 2 QBs on the roster).

I'll let the doctors decide the surgeries. All I know is,if this was gonna happen it is better it happened in week one rather than week 14.

His recovery time will be better. I think after surgery and getting healthy it is important to get back to doing your daily routines for awhile. There is alot of mental apects to injuries that these athletes must overcome. Brady will still have to stand tall in the pocket and move around like he did before. Sometimes horrific injuries will delay that process because the athlete worked so hard in recovery that he fears going through it again.

I am hoping for a speedy recovery but am also ready to understand if this is going to be a long one.

He won't be 100%, no way.

You can recover fairly quickly from ACL tears but not 100%. You can move in a straight line only, and sudden cuts are completely out of the question when running.

Folks here are SO 'Twentieth Century' in their provincail medical outlooks.
Think, people. It's the 21st century.

After the amputation Wednesday, Belichick will have Tom outfitted with a nanotech bionic left leg. After a couple weeks geting used to the enhanced limb, Tom will be able to leap skyward, peering over 6'6" DLs outstretched arms and throwing blazing bullets to outstretched Moss's arms. Hell, Dark Lord of the Sith Belichick may even use the opportunity to get that shoulder fixed, and maybe the right foot/leg as well. Think Vick but MUCH faster and no canine downside. The possibilities are endless.

The fly in the ointment could be Commisioner Goodel's ruling against such medical intervention but Kraft will deploy a bevy of lawyers citing the Americans Disabilities Act and prevail.
