from there I am not sure...

But football is a TEAM game, and there is no TOM, or BRADY in TEAM...

we lost our best player overall, but that does not mean we are crap without him...

and no QB that is brought in, will learn the system, and create connections with the recievers fast enough to replace Cassel...

Cassel will live up to the task...we will not go undefeated...but we will never get blown out, and we will make the playoffs (most likely by winning the division)...

We know nothing as what happens with Brady right now...but I am confident that this TEAM, can bring us to the playoffs...after that, anything can happen...

with Brady not in the lineup, this Team will rise to the challenge...every single player will study that much harder, theyll practice that much harder, and they will play that much harder...This is the PATRIOTS....they are NOT a one man team, they are the best TEAM the sportsworld has seen in the last decade if not ever

Our offense will be fine...we will have a running game for the record books, and our recievers will bale our backup QB out on more then one occasion...

but we will win more then any other reason b/c of of defense...I think this year (it might take 2 or 3 games) this defense will break records...records which have stood a VERY long time...

BELIEVE IN NOW

and speedy recovery to our own Tom Brady, greatest QB to ever play in the NFL (and may you be back by the playoffs)

Good laugh, I needed that. Weren't u one of the fools saying Cassel sucked.

Cassel will do fine, but he will show me something if he does well next week in a hostile territory..

none of us wanted this. but we, as fans, must back Cassel. we need to believe so the other 52 players on the NEP believe. nobody thought we would be where we got after Bledsoe was injured. we need to believe. winning is contagious, and this organization is full of winners.

if our defense was consistent and frustrating i would be more +ve . frankly our Dś bend dont break crap isnt enough to mask its speed or lack of it.

If Cassel can continue what he did today against better competition, this team still has a legitimate shot to win the AFC East. Don't forget we get Faulk back next week which will make the running game more potent.

This team will just have to start outhitting opponents on a routine basis again.

There ARE three returning Pro Bowlers on the OL. And a large group of competent or better RBs. And an OUTSTANDING pair of WRs. And a fully Pro-Bowl-class DL. And a fully Pro-Bowl-Class pair of OLBs.

The QB and right side of the OL and secondary and so on will just have to do their best and not let the others down.

Cassell will have to hit a few deep balls early on in his tenure. Everyone can stack the box, jam up Welker, cheat in to disrupt the screens and quick hitters, corral the run game, everything. But he'll have to keep them honest. If he can do that, then ok. He's going to have every chance I think to hit a few deep ones, despite the presence of Moss. If he can do that, then ok, go from there. But if not, I hope Chris Hanson improves his coffin cornering.

It's funny (and sad) how much can change in just one week.

Definitely have the talent to make it to the playoffs. We can still win the AFC east no problem. Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Tedy Bruschi, Richard Seymour, Rodney Harrison, Vince Wilfork...and this list goes on. Way too much talent on this team not be still be the favorite to win the AFC East.

And I didnt even mention the best coach in the NFL...

Nope...i doubt I was one of those people...

(i didnt pay very much attention to the preseason games....)

This was the first game in...like forever where Cassel played with the first team offense and with an actual gameplan. Preseason gameplans are always vanilla. I'm not a big fan of the guy's, I liked the poise I saw in Guttierez more but I'm inclined to trust the folks running this team more than myself.

Until Cassel starts really sucking I'm going to remain hopeful and positive that he can do the job.

It's not like we're expecting Cassel to lead the 2003 version of this team's offense which was...not exactly loaded compared to now. He'll have all the tools you could ask for at his disposal. I'll be surprised if this team doesn't make the playoffs and from there on out it's one game at a time.

Anyone looking for a silver lining here should probably consider that if Cassel plays even halfway decent the team will easily net a 1st rounder for him. Yeah, I know, small consolation.

maybe hell develop into the Steve Young of Joe Montana?

We play as a team....hope for the best and prepare for the worst...I will be always pats fan no matter what...Speedy recovery and best wishes...

That's the spirit. :) I think Cassel, after watching some highlights from the game today has what it takes to be efficient and make some plays for the Patriots. As long as the run game, defense, O-Line, and special teams play well as part of a team effort, I can see you guys going 10-6 or even 11-5 with a playoff berth. :)

I don't know how Cassel will hold up to being game planned against, but the team does have a lot of offensive firepower. It should be an interesting ride.

I can tell you that former players like Fred and DeOssie and Zolak were impressed by the fact that Randy cut off his route based on the coverage he saw post snap - and Cassel made the same read and that is why they connected for 51 yards...

That is something no JAG backup who couldn't stick on a roster as a 4th stringer is going to be capable of doing even if he could manage to memorize the playbook... None of the JAGS in question have ever run anything resembling this system.

FYI Cassel is a FA in 2009 though there is now a legitimate shot that he signs an extension here as a starter who could then be traded in a year or so with Brady back if O'Connell actually develops.

I think this team without Brady is better than the 2001 team that won the SB.

ESPECIALLY in an offense like this, Cassel can only get better with more experience IMO. I'll repost what i said in the other thread:

Matt Cassel definately isn't Tom Brady as we know him now, but who's to say he can't be the 2001 Tom Brady who managed games and took what defenses gave him? On paper, he has a much stronger supporting cast than Brady had. It all starts up front, if our OL can perform anything like they did last season (minus the SB of course ) this team can still go places IMO. Give Cassel some time with Moss, Welker, and a deep, effective backfield and he will be adequate.

This defense doesn't have the corners or ILB's (no Ted, much older Tedy) we had in 2001 but is arguably better at every other positiion. Most importantly, we must believe Belichick can get it done. After last year this is the ultimate chance for him to stick it to his haters.

F**K yeah.............Im sittin my ass on my caribbean porch looking out the sea like Captain Jack Sparrow and day dreamin Tom Brady is back. I do belive this season is gonna be one to remember. Tom Brady does not play defense.... SO hopefully we'll keep the numbers down and win some games to keep us into the playoffs.
