I was talking to a friend about what has happened with Brady's injury, as well as the gloating and absolute venom hurled at the Patriots organization for the past 12 months. Here is what he had to say, and I couldn't agree more:

"I'll say this. After last year's gloating over the pats' loss in the SB, this shadenfreude over Brady's injury means that I will never, ever for any reason have any sympathy whatsoever for fans of any other team."

There's competitive spirit, wanting to see your team win or the dragon slayed, but what we've seen is beyond contempt. At the bar I was at in Baltimore for instance, the entire bar was cheering after every replay of Brady's injury. Comments from people on sports blogs across the internet are similarly venomous.

I will never, ever forget or forgive this. It has tainted my perception of Americans irreparably.

I'm with you. I travel fairly frequently and I'm serious when I tell you that wearing a Patriots hat, t-shirt, jacket, etc. in an airport will lead to trouble. It is impossible to overstate the degree of hatred America feels of our team.

disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

I was at my usual favorite watering hole for the Patriots game down here in Orlando. When Brady went down and was clutching his knee, about 40-50 complete jackasses started cheering.....quickly followed by them singing "Na na na na.....Hey hey, goodbye!......I nearly came unglued. I know people around this country hate the Pats, but cheering when one of them gets injured has to be the most clear sign of how F'd up people have become.

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

I heard from someone at the Pittsburg game that they announced it and the crowd went wild.

The NFL is full of pricks, nothing new. Makes me glad to be a fan of this team who just bring it on the field.

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

yeah society is pretty messed up. sports is out of control from professional, to college, and high school and beyond.

we've really become misguided as a people

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

I just got this email from a former college roommate:

I was wondering if the sound of Brady's ACL snapping was synonymous with the Super Bowl hopes of the Pats snapping?

He's a Braves fan, I told him to eff off.

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

people take sports too seriously and are happy when other teams players are hurt. I never understood that. I don't wish injury on any players, even jet or giant players.

I have been on other, non football boards today and everyone is laughing becuase he got hurt. I can't believe most ignorant people.

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

They are losers and have nothing to cheer about for their teams.
No class people

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

The world has gone to hell in a handbasket, the fans who cheer injury have serious issues, unfortunately i suspect a high percent of fans cheered over Brady's injury, probably 70 percent or more, the human race is a disgraceful species overall. Shameful what football turns people into.

It's never been more apparent than during the Internet era, where ignorant people can spout their bull**** and not be held accountable for it. I really hate how jaded our society is.

I hope someone got Ben home safely.

Re: Schadenfreude

They're just envious. Don't lower yourself to their level.

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

Look, even people like Mawae and Jeff Fisher take pleasure out of ending people's seasons. It's sick but there it is.

yeah it is bad. there are just so many dumb sports fans. a player is one of the best we have ever seen and works his ass off, is respectful to the press, and people cheer that he gets his knee messsed up and these jackasses are all happy about it. they just hate that he is so good, they hate it. they know he is not going to play badly so him being hurt is the only chance they have. i hate most football fans, in fact sports fans have really caused me to lose interest in them. anyone who cheers for an injury is an *******, plain and simple

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

I can attest to the widespread truth of this in the Southeast. The majority of people around here do not even follow pro football very much (college being the only game they care about), yet many I have met despise the Patriots, as well as pretty much anything from Boston. There was delight when the team lost last February, and delight this afternoon.

Of course, they also hate rival high schools' players, too, and wish upon them the most malicious of curses...

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

If you wana take a look at someone that likes to hurt people look at Wilfork.....I hope this injury puts a sock in the medias mouth for a bit....

Re: disgraceful reaction to Brady's injury....

Should be a real interesting day at the office tomorrow. God help the first idiot Bungals fan that gloats about that injury.

Especially if he/she is on my staff ;)

All I heard down here about the superbowl last year from the majority of people I work with was "I don't care if the Giants win the Superbowl, I just don't want the Patriots to win it." Which I am basically OK with that. Its just the reason they wish that is because we got caught filming another teams playcalling......something most every fan of every team in the NFL acknowledges theyre favorite team is probably doing it too. But yet, we should be treated differently because the media says so.

Sorry. I'm ranting. Just still pissed that people are happy that Brady got hurt on a dirty hit.

Dirty hit my ass...............It is because of comments like this that make me glad he is busted up......Wilfork lays a late hit on a QB and you pvssies say he is just playing football.......

sports make people act like idiots for whatever reason. they cheer someone getting hurt, they throw things at players and coaches of other teams, they raid the field after a game, they destroy property around the city after winning, they threaten the lives of players who do not get the job done, they yell racial slurs at black coaches who are not winning, i could go on and on. you should see the way some of the parents treat the high school coaches around here, some have quit and said it is because they were so tired of the parents constant complaning and screaming at them for who they play during the game. when ken griffey jr was with the reds he was getting hunderds of death threats to him and his faimly from fans who were mad that he was not playing better. people are just way too stupid and think that this stuff is far more important than it is. i almost want to give up sports as a whole because of these jackasses. outside of the nfl i do not pay attention to sports anymore because i am so sick of idiot sports fans
