Steve Mariucci: 2008 Pats can go undefeated

Yeah, but they've done it before. Not much different than wondering out loud if the Giants can repeat (hehehehe).

Also, not true. The Redskins cannot go undefeated.

well i guess there's always next year. or maybe go undefeated in the preseason. i'd rather go undefeated in the playoffs.

I don't see why any Pats fan should be offended by undefeated talk. If anything, it's encouraging to see such high standards placed for my favorite team. Compare that to the Dolphins, where winning 2 games this season would be considered a vast improvement.

Winning the Super Bowl, the bottom line, is the most important thing. But I always believe the Patriots can win in any game they play. So I'll be hoping that they do.

I remember watching a few games last year with my buddy (a Buc's fan) and I was still relatively green in my football fandom. A couple of times it didn't look great at the half and he said something that proved to be true 18 out of 19 times.

He said they are a superior football team that knows how to win. They know how to cope with changes during the game and they have a monster collective game-play IQ. Don't count them out until the clock has expired.

And that's a mantra you simply can't buy into with over half of the teams in the league. In fact I think even a highly rated team such as the cowboys are very much momentum dependent. We'll find out soon if the way the pundits have set the table is going to change drastically before the banquet.

hold up there as sec fellas. we have some tough teams to play:

colts, chargers, jets, jets, seattle(on the road), denver(has our number) and pittsburgh. that's 7 tough games out of 16.

colts and chargers both want revenge from last year. the jets have favre now and always want to beat us. denver is tough to play against, even when they had plummer and you never know about pittsburgh.

19-0 is possible, but our schedule is not as easy as everyone thinks.

Good points. Also keep in mind that even supposed "easy" games last year were nightmares for the Patriots. Especially the Ravens game...keep in mind that the Pats got a couple of lucky breaks in that game.

This undefeated talk is getting silly. Call me a fickle fan all you want but if we start to go undefeated and see the same lackadasical (sp) attitude that the team had at the end of last year, I almost hope we lose a game in the regular season to regain focus. That's just me though.

The Jets? No. Just no. The Jets suck. They'll finish behind the Bills. Denver will be bad too. And we own Pittsburgh. Own them, utterly. There are 3 tough games on the schedule. Colts, Chargers, Seattle. Every other game we should be heavily favored in and win.

Seeing how it's only happened twice in the regular season in nfl history i'll have to say no. The only undefeated i want is in the postseason.

The Jets are better than they were last year and we only beat them by 10 points the second time around.

At Jets is a tough game.

SD also has an advantage over the pats and colts schedule wise this yr. they play both the pats and colts at home vs pats play both colts and bolts on the road.

You're response to Kontra's post is going to be the weather. Fine. But the Jets have made some significant additions that cannot help but improve the team. Sorry, next week is going to be a tough game. Their big weaknesses last year have all been addressed one way or another...pass rush, qb play, nose tackle, and offensive line.

Well I'm all for them going undefeated but .....
if they should lose .... like to the JETs next week .... there will be at
least one consolation .... this undefeated talk will STOP!!! ... and they
can't go on to win the SB. ;)

Sorry, but I don't agree. The only signing that will significantly improve that team is Faneca, and he's not an all-pro type guard anymore. If Woody makes it through the season without getting hurt or benched, it will be a minor miracle. Pace has done nothing in his career to show he can be a force as an outside rusher, which is why they brought him in. Jenkins has underachieved and been hurt for three years now, he's not the same player he was. Gholston is struggling mightily. Favre is... well, he's Favre, aka the quarterback I'd most want to be facing in a big game aside from the scrubs of the league. I expect us to have an easier time handling the Jets than we do the Chiefs.

I agree....even though FESPN will never let that go if we loose to the jest...but the undefeated talk will stop....and then yes we will then go onto the SB win!!

Here is what I say:

Not this crap again

Just said on the 2008 NFL pre-season special.

Added that in his mind there are only 3 tough games on the schedule. (@ SD, @ IND, @ SEA)

Says they should have been perfect last year and are the team to beat in the AFC, as did Deion Sanders. Both said the only way another AFC team is making the Super Bowl is if something were to happen to Brady or Moss.

Steve's on the record for possible perfection, what says you?

I'm not interested in perfection..... just show me the Lombardi.

i know we all hate the jets but why cant we agree they are better. ? they werent as bad as a 4-12 team and now have some significant players. Pace, jenkins, faneca, favre.
not to mention they drafted a good LB in harris and have slowly added players in the secondary with rhodes. cotchery and coles can fit in any team in my opinion.
only thing they dont have is a history/reputation of playing together otherwise from what i can see , its quite a decent team in the AFC and they dont have to play the colts or pittsburgh.

If they hadn't gone 16-0 in the regular season last year this wouldn't even be discussed, let alone thrown around as a possibility. Let's see the team on the field a few times before crap like this is thrown around. I'm as confident as anyone else in this teams ability, but there's a reason last season was historic: it's never been done before. I'll be happy with a playoff birth, leave the perfect season talk to the idiots who supposedly know more than us about football.
