Slater took a lot of reps on kick returns and I expect he will be given the first shot. With the lack of CB depth I would rather see Hobbs out of the mix.

As for punts, assuming the injury to welker is not a factor I would expect him out there. I know BB/Seely value a sure handed PR who will make good decisions.

On the coverage side of the ball I expect a good effort covering punts and kicks. What happened in the presason was a disgrace. The Core team wasn't always working together in those games so I'll give them a pass. Botoom line like a lot of things it needs to be better.

Any thoughts?

Slater looks good on special teams, I think he and CJ Jones will be alternating. I think Welker and O'Neal will be doing punts.

I predict that Slater will run one past the 50 yd line this Sunda:singing:y!

Eh, you know he has his eyes on Hobbs' record. ;)

Maybe we finally see Slaters "extra gear." hope that wasn't all hype.

Depending upon injuries, I wouldn't be surprised if only one of Slater/Jones is active. If so, I predict Jones will be the one. He has been returning both punts and kicks, while Slater seems only to have been in on kickoff returns. Jones' ability to return punts allows the team to keep Welker (and his ribs) away from punts for a week. JMO.

Slater was drafted as a RETURNER (no college position)so he better be our returner! Not sure how he made the team, his returns in preseason were pedestrian at best while around the league there were returners cut who had a TD. I think this is the most "specialized" team BB has had, and I will be looking for the reason he has had so many people in for punting tryouts.....

umm....i think faulk will be the one returning punts after week 1...with so much rb depth, he is the best option

as for KR, either slater or cj jones...a guy like that

1 reason they were looking at punters is that they did not have one on their pratice squad

Special teams has both return and coverage teams. Slater is a returner and gunner. Don't see him being inactive.

There is no reason to have one on your PS unless there is a "percieved" problem. The PS is to develop players.....punters are either better than the incumbent or they arent, there is no "special way to punt" in the NFL.

They have had a pratice squad punter each of the last 2 years see Maloney and Danny baughter (sp)

So you can't develop a punter??

True, but our top gunner is Washington. There are others who have been used in that role that can play opposite side.

I'm not down on Slater. It's just that I could see BB moving the rookies in slowly.
