Pats still have moves in the defensive backfield

Posted 08-31-2008 at 09:11 PM by Lloyd_Christmas
Following the cuts of Bryant and Lynch (and Webster earlier), the Patriots are left with only 4 CBs (Hobbs, Wheatly, Wilhite, and Lewis) and 3 viable safeties (Harrison, Sanders, and Meriweather).

It seems likely that the Patriots have already made the call to "He who shall not be underpaid". Hopefully, the Pats can scrape up enough money to feed his family this coming season.

I also could see Lynch coming back, mostly because we seem a bit thin at safety. Unlike others, I am not encouraged by BB's cryptic "down the road" comments. Sounds more like a favor to Lynch to draw more interest in him.

When was the last time BB ever tipped his hand? Granted, if they already worked something out, maybe he doesn't care... still, don't remember BB ever doing that with any other players he cut and then resigned.

I feel like our defense is getting too old. I understand wanting to have veterans in the backfield, but there comes a time when you have to start pulling in some younger players and the Pats just havnt done that.

The loss of Brady is going to put a large strain on the defense because Cassel, although he played well, just isnt mature enough in the game to move down the field and get a TD every drive like Brady could; this is going to put a strain on the running game as well as the defense to make sure that they stop the other team.

We just need to get some younger guys back there soon so that they can learn from veterans like Vrabel and Bruschi while they're still in the game.
