Default Not a good day for Obama on The Hill

I have been at the Senate today while a variety of fiscal bills have been being discussed. The 3 Presidential hopefuls are in attendance today. It's a day that Obama may have wished he had skipped. Things started earlier this morning when Sen. Allard from CO proposed an amendment that would fund every project that Obama has proposed while on the campaign trail. Its a staggering 1.4 Billion over 5 years. It has no chance of passing but it will be interested to see how Obama votes. This afternoon McCain fired a shot across the bow of both Obama and Clinton by challenging them to release their list of earmarks that the have asked for in the upcoming budget. Obama has just recently answered. 138 earmarks totaling $330 million. No word from Clinton yet. McCain has a policy of not requesting earmarks for his home state.

I would think that Congress has better things to do, it is just another attempt to extend this election to every facet of american life... on and on and on and on and on...

I find that hard to believe..if so he probably stands alone, but it is not true:

McCain’s claim is false. In 2006, the senator teamed up with fellow Arizona senator Jon Kyl (R) to funnel $10 million toward the University of Arizona for an academic center named after the late Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist. Even Arizona lawmaker, Rep. Jeff Flake (R), said he was planning to “lean against the measure.” The National Taxpayers Union, another traditional McCain ally, questioned why the senator was making federal taxpayers foot the bill for the center.

In 2003, McCain also slipped $14.3 million into a defense appropriations bill to
create a buffer zone around Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. As Roll Call reported in 2003, this project violated McCain’s own anti-pork rhetoric:

McCain has in the past asked for earmarks but has been on the low end as far as earmarks go. I was told he has none this year, if he does have any I am sure it will get mentioned soon. My stance is that all earmarks should be done away with.

I agree, we should get what they vote on, but in the spirit of "compromise" a lot of stuff gets added that we all pay for... my biggest ***** is the FEMA stuff every small hick town has a mobile command center in case of the big one and mot too many people know how to use... this along with every sophisticated device imaginable, meanwhile we can't even secure a border or stop cocaine/heroin from entering this country

Interesting little tidbit I noticed from Obama's release of earmarks. Money went to a company involved with one of his campaign advisors. Could be a mountain or a molehill.
