Hi guys,
I was wondering how many of my compatriots were looking forward to watching a great NCAA baskeball game tonight. UNC v. Duke games definitely have the intensity of Pats-Colts or Sox-Yanks. Collegiately, the only other rivalry that seems to have the same national interest is Ohio State-Michigan. I am excited and as always, cheering for the Tar Heels.

When you live in the Triangle you are REQUIRED to watch every UNC-Duke game. Actually I didn't pay too much attention to college basketball before I moved here, but this is a great rivalry and both teams are near the top of the rankings year in and year out. It should be a great game.

Yikes! Both Peyton and Eli are at the game! I guess they give tickets to anybody these days...

No thanks. The time between football and baseball is the black hole for me.

It's a shame you feel that way. This game is pretty unreal right now.

Great game. Tyler Hansbrough has hardly cordial, even cold postgame handshakes. It looks downright Belichickian.

Dickie V sounded like he lost a loved one when UNC came back at the end of the game. I know he loves Coach K..but please. Absolutely no objectivity from him. You should hear him on Mike and Mike. Pumps up Yankees and Notre Dame all of the time. Ignores them when they fail.

One of my best friends got his PhD from Duke. But, remembering a certain Duke-UConn game from the Christian Laettner/Kevin Ollie era, I still think Dook is teh suck, and I'm glad they lost. ;)

That's why he's likeable. No Bullsh!t, just balls to the wall effort every night. Tough mother effer. he's the kind of guy that would be good at whatever he wants to be. Reminds me of Brady.

Even when they fail, he supports them with: "They get everybody's best shot!"
I don't know of any broadcaster who brings less substance to the table than Dickie V. All he talks about is General Robert Montgomery Knight, Coach K, Jimmy V, the Cameron Crazies, Notre Dame, and the Yankees. They should just replay the same spiel every week on Mike & Mike.

Yes, you are correct in that assessment. He plays with the same face and determination. Never whines to refs or reacts to 'hard fouls' or getting pounded in the post.

I have to strongly disagree. Besides the fact that Tyler doesn't have many "hard fouls" to react to, because opponents get whistled for breathing on him too hard, he's the very epitome of "he can dish it out but can't take it". He is a tough physical player, but if anyone attempts to get physical with him, it's an instantaneous foul. And don't even get me started on all the traveling he gets away with.
Anyway, you'll have to forgive my irritation. In case camping out in the rain all day to get into that game, and then have it end the way it did, weren't bad enough, I also got to watch the crowd fawn all over the Manning brothers like they're the second coming of Jesus. It's bad enough to have to see their ugly mugs plastered all over espn all the time, I don't need them corrupting the only other sport I care about.

I don't want to into a Dook/UNC thing with a fellow Pats fan because I am emotionally attached to both issues - probably closer to the Pats with the 'Us vs. Them' mentality I've developed.
More importantly, the Manning brothers got a big kick out of the Speedo Guy. You should have thrown something at them if you had the chance!

That's very high praise.
I love UNC. My favorite non-RI NCAAB team.
I loathe Duke more than the Colts.

PatJew,
I really really liked you before, but I love you now. I'm down with you in culture, PATRIOTism, and bleedin' Carolina Blue!
Are you otherwise a URI Rams (pre-Harrick) fan?

Cool, now I have another brother from another mother.
In high school I always dreamed of playing for the Tar Heels. If only I didn't suck!
I'm firs and foremost a URI and Providence College fan. I kind of root for both and bounce between the 2. My favorite NCAAB team was the Final Four 1987 Friars with Rick Pitinio (who I now hate) at coach and Billy "the kid" Donovan running the point. Second favorite team was the next year's 1988 Running Rams, coached by Tom Penders and led by my fellow West Warwick (RI) High School alum, Tommy Garrick (he's the one with the blind father) to the Sweet 16 after beating mighty Syracuse in the second round. Guess who URI lost to that year: Duke  !
Then, whenever the RI teams get bounced from March Madness, I root for UNC.

You know, it's interesting that you mention this, because I think the "us against them" thing has made me care more about the pats as well, although I consider myself a pretty devoted fan of both teams. Part of it may also be high expectations- it's obviously easier to see your team lose when they weren't really expected to win than watch them choke away an undefeated season in the super bowl. And part of it is that when everyone hates your team, and enjoys seeing them lose, it's just that much more painful. Duke usually falls into that category as well, but this year we have much more of a young, underdog-type team.
The other Duke/Carolina game this season was only a few days after the super bowl, and I was still so crushed that I couldn't even really enjoy the win. My fiance was running laps around the apartment woohoo-ing, and I was just like "...yay."

Why is this kept in the main forum?,Not only is it not Patriots related but its not even football related except for some NFL player spectators.

I work at Duke, was rooting for my boys.
Sad game this weekend, that Duke lost that is. My wife went to UNC, so she travelled to Chapel Hill to watch while I stayed in Durham. On that night, it is a house divided!
One thing sucks even though I've worked here 3+ years it is impossible to freaking get tickets to Cameron Stadium. I must do it once before I leave back home in NE.
I agree that this is probably not appropriate for the main Pats forum :)
