This state is so gross. All they do is increase taxes, fees, tolls, and the cost of doing business, and then they wonder why key age demographics flee in droves, why business' don't want to come here, and also why illegals come by the bus load. What a total joke this state is when it comes to taxes & efficiency. This idea, if it's indeed what they do, reminds me of the toll on the Tobin. I remember when they raised it from 50 cents to a dollar, cuz they needed more money to "pay for up keep"
. Please. Massport throws more money away that the Mass Lottery. Anyhow, the idea was that a doubling of the toll to $1, wouldn't croke people, and while doubling the "revenue" for repairs. Well, as is the case with about everything the government does, their logic was flawed. The increase resulted in less vehicles crossing. The result? Tolls went to $2. Again, fewer vehicles crossed, and so what happened? How's a $3 toll sound to you? LOLOLOLOL!!! Retards. That bridge could collapse before I drive over it and give those losers my hard earned cash. The same applies to this twisted maroonery. For some reason, it's smokers who need to foot the bill for everybody else. Instead of trying to cut spending someplace, they go the Patters route and raise taxes instead. DiMasi, Murray mull increase in cigarette tax Funds would help cover healthcare costs By Alice Dembner Globe Staff / February 6, 2008 The state's top two legislative leaders, faced with the prospect of soaring costs for the healthcare initiative, are considering raising the cigarette tax as one of several funding and cost-cutting strategies. Both House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi and Senate President Therese Murray said a tax increase would be discussed as they look for ways to ensure that the universal health insurance initiative succeeds. Healthcare advocates have proposed a $1 per pack tax increase that would raise an estimated $152 million a year, according to an analysis by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a Washington advocacy group. Neither DiMasi nor Murray, who spoke in separate interviews Monday, has endorsed that specific proposal. The top lawmakers said they would consider stiffer penalties on businesses that fail to insure their workers as a means to raise additional funds. And they are seeking ways to reduce healthcare costs, short of cutting back the health insurance initiative. "We've made a commitment [to the healthcare initiative], and we have to keep it," Murray said. But, she added, "Everything should be on the table for discussion" in how to fund it. The Globe reported Sunday that annual costs for the subsidized insurance program at the heart of the initiative are projected to double over the next three years, reaching $1.35 billion by June 2011. http://www.boston.com/news/local/mas...cigarette_tax/

I'm praying that the MA citizens that defect here to NH don't bring their insane policies with them.

That is exactly what they are doing... NH has become just another northeastern blue state.

I don't think it's quite there yet, a lot of people here are still fiercly independent of political parties. But if we continue to embrace these silly policies, we will be. I think come November that this state might actually go for McCain over Clinton or Obama. We'll see.
