Default To boost economy, Americans want out of Iraq

The heck with Congress’ big stimulus bill. The way to get the country out of recession — and most people think we’re in one — is to get the country out of Iraq, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll.

Most people think we're in a recession because they hear it on TV everyday. I can guarantee you that 80-90% of those same people don't even know what constitutes a recession. Also, that poll is so amazing eh? So you're saying that people, when given a choice between war, and money for themselves, they chose the money? Amazing! I guess if I posed the question of kick out illegals and get us out of recession, or keep them here and go into one, they'd choose to kick out illegals. Like I always say, polls are really worth much.

Damn it - that's exactly what I was going to say

The country is so spoiled they think everything has to be up, up and away - we can't have a slowdown in the economy or the stock market and it we do it's an unmitigated disaster. There are just too many people who don't get it. And don't get me started on all the people who get out of the stock market when it's going down; sigh.

Anyway, I don't think any of us are happy with how Iraq has gone since we went in and most of us wouldn't have gone in had we known. But the middle east, unfortunately, is still a very important strategic area - people can say "no blood for oil" but the country would shut down without oil. There are alternatives like nuclear and coal but those aren't acceptable either - go figure

It's amazing isn't it. I was ranting about this to my wife the other day (her eyes promptly glazed over, as they should). First of all, the economy is cyclical. Recessions happen. I'm not alleviating Bush of any culpability for his retarded spending habits, but it's true. But you're right when you say that most people just think we're in a recession because the MSM keeps throwing the word out there. I'm sure they didn't in Clinton's final year or so in office when the Tech bubble burst, and the economy began to falter. Apparently, the economy's been in the toilet for 8 years. And it has in some ways, but certainly not in others. It's more complicated then they make it, and they focus on what they want to. They don't like Bush, so they focus on the negative.

I believe that Iraq is Not the source or main problem of our economy.

Greed and lack of solid regulations , and corrupt politicians via Lobbyism are the main problem of our country today.

"could . . . within a decade". I'm not discounting your point but you didn't give a very accurate picture without the extended timeframe they referred to.

Don't blame me buddy !

Read the article title !!

If it took us 2 world wars and more than 50 years , the article says it will only take them a decade , wich is worst in my opinion .
