Welcome to Giants Stadium
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
December 29, 2007 05:10 PM

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Welcome to Giants Stadium, where the Patriots visit the Giants tonight (8:15 p.m.).

For a late December game here, the weather couldn't be much better. The current temperature is 47 degrees, there is no precipitation, and there is a light wind that shouldn't be a factor in the game.

Looking down on the field, the NFL Network has a stage set up for pre-game, halftime and postgame commentary. In one end zone, a significant number of television cameras are set up to capture what could be a historic night. The media coverage of the game is expected to be overwhelming.

We'll be filing updates throughout the night.

I'm psyched...it's chilly and grey here in So Cal this afternoon...perfect football weather.

I've got all my gear on; my wife has her gear, and we are desperately trying to put off mixing the first bloody Mary.

I don't think I got this psyched even during the Super Bowl years. This is really exciting. What a helluva season this team has given to us fans.

Thank you, Patriots...you are the best there is and ever has been.

GO PATRIOTS!!!!!!

I've got my Pats jersey on, so do my wife and three kids (11, 7, and 3 year-old). We are ready for the final regular season game heading into the path of perfection.

Thanks for a great year, New England Patriots.

Charlie is there with his kid to watch his adopted son...

BB is on the field now shmoozing with Mooch. Deion is hollering for him to get the game plan...LOL Coach is featuring the inside out sweatshirt look this evening for pre game, Mooch is in his Armani overcoat - what a couple. Bill looks animated and happy though.

This saturation coverage is really something. NFLN has replayed segments of every game this afternoon. Next up is a Sabol sitdown interview with BB.

Edit to say it's a Mike Mayock (NFLN's college draft guru) interview with Bill and I didn't know this but he played for coach.

Why would you have your game uniform on over 2 hours before the game? Tedy is on the field too, warming up in cut off sweats and a hoodie. That Watson is in NY is a positive sign...

They just did a roundtable discussion with Schefter, Peter King and some NY sports reporter. Schefter asked the NY guy if what happened with the video scandal should effect Bill's chances at COY. Of course, he said well I think it has to...cheating...the children...:blahblah:

The interesting thing was King cut him off and said he IS one of the 50 AP voters and while he will consider what happened he's thought a lot about it lately and his two candidates are McCarthy and Belichick, and today he is leaning towards Belichick. The vote will be held Monday.

i dont get king. he is a decent writer, but he absolutely tried to HANG bill after spygate. in the past few months though, he has had nothing but praise for bill and the team, and has written several articles to that affect. i think maybe he was just using spygate to get attention and advance his career, as collinsworth seems to have followed the same path.

It will be a big accomplishment. But I just can't get psyched about this until they win the Superbowl.

Good for Garo. The first Dolphin I've heard to give an honest, but acceptable answer: "Yes, I want them to lose one, they can win the rest."

I have no problem with this answer.

In fact, if the Pats go 19-0 this year, and some team is 12-0 in 2015, and they trot out some of these patriots after they are retired, I would have no problem with the same answer. The key is to stop talking after that. There's nothing else to say -- no rancor, no bitterness, just an honest answer.

Minus the spygate episode, he's always been extremely complimentary of the Pats, Brady, and BB. To many non-Pats fans he was viewed as sorta a Pats homer, which is why I'm surprised many of you view him as the opposite.

Wouldn't it be great if Moss and Brady break records on the same play?

Only way it could happen is if Brady's first TD pass goes to Moss.

I'd really love it if we could get some of the record stuff out of the way early, not only because it will mean we'd have scored at least 2 TDs, but also because I worry a bit that it might be a distraction that affects the goal of winning the game.

Which brings up an interesting question -- if you had to chose between a win with Brady throwing zero TDs or a loss with Brady throwing 4 TDs to Moss, which would you chose? My first instinct was to say "win of course," but actually, it's close in my mind.

It's a bad matchup problem. Thin o line v. good d line. For all the talk about Eli and the Giants offense in the pre-game, this could be the story of the game. I think we need to have some quick slant stuff and runs. It's the kind of game where you'd like healthy tight ends.

You'd also like some pass plays designed for our running backs. Interestingly (I just looked it up) our RBs have only 16 catches all year, which is amazing. Has to be near the bottom of the league, although not surprising giving our WR depth. Still, you'd like to have that option.

Yea I am a bit scared about the weak right-side of the line. We will just have to keep Faulk in on the right side to block anything that gets through. This will actually be a tough game, I am just hoping the defense can make some big plays (read: intercept Eli at least 2 times) and balance the game out.

Why are people *****ing about Hobbs? Manning had all day to throw the ball and threw it in a nice arc to a tall, quality receiver. There's not a cornerback on either team who would have defended that play. It's not as if there was any safety help for him there.

Not saying one is more "valuable". But #21's death was more public due to his probowl status in the NFL. Therefore, when almost every other team wears the decal, you know that the Pats made a conscious decision not to wear it, which seems strange.
